chan0110 Posted February 18, 2015 Report Posted February 18, 2015 Hello,I need help figuring out a 4* all-inclusive hotel in St. Maarten. The dates are 4/20-4/23 and the price given was $197. The amenities are:Free BreakfastBeachfrontCasinoFree food and DrinksA la Carte DiningFree Water ActivitiesFree EntertainmentFree ActivitiesFitness Center The only hotel listed on the Hotwire Hotel List in St Maarten is the Sonesta Maho, but the amenities don't match up entirely. Could it still be it? Thanks!
thereuare Posted February 18, 2015 Report Posted February 18, 2015 Welcome to BetterBidding! If you haven't yet, please start by reading your messages (which will also remove the red box at the top of the page asking that you do the same). ;) I believe there are more amenities then what you have posted above as HOTWIRE has a new interface that does not show the complete set of amenities unless you click thru a few extra links. If you repeat your search using our BiddingHelper.com tool... use the HOTWIRE EASY VIEW tab and then click the GREEN BUTTON next to this listing, do you see more amenities then what you have listed above? Using this method, below is the full list of amenities i'm seeing for the 4 star hotel in this zone when searching for your dates: Complimentary Breakfast Beachfront Casino Food and Beverages ala Carte Water Sports Evening Entertainment Daily Activities Fitness Pool Restaurant Business Hi-Speed Internet Spa Travel Accessible Room Accessible Bathroom Accessible Handicapped Parking Roll-in Shower ... if this is what you're seeing, a new amenity set for the Sonesta Maho Beach Resort and Casino would be my best guess for this one. Not sure if you're familiar with this area but Maho Bay is one of my favorite beaches in the world... it's not exactly peaceful with the planes flying overhead all the time, but i'm as giddy as a school kid each time a plane comes in to land. :) We head here each time we've been on a cruise to this area and a few times we've purchased day passes to the Sonesta, so i may be able to answer any questions you may have. chan0110 Posted February 19, 2015 Author Report Posted February 19, 2015 Thank you! I did the below on Easy View and you are right, it looks like the amenities are updated for this hotel. After getting some reviews from friends (on Facebook) they're mostly recommending the French side. Do you have any opinions there on French vs Dutch? Would appreciate any help before booking :)What does a day pass run if we decide to try that for a day but not book there? Thanks again!
thereuare Posted February 19, 2015 Report Posted February 19, 2015 I've only been a cruise ship visitor the first time on the island we visited Maho Bay, and it quickly became one of my favorite locations to spend the day (i've never stayed overnite), so we have simply returned there every time since. A quick search of my own it appears that there is not much nightlife on the French side... both have nice beaches but the edge in this regard going to the French side. So i think it depends what your plans are for this trip and what you plan on doing while there... if i'm at an all-inclusive property i typically don't leave or look for nightlife elsewhere, so i would be more concerned about the quality of the all-inclusive property than whether it was on the French/Dutch side... if not going all-inclusive, then i would choose the location based more upon my needs/plans for the trip. The island is not that big, and you can easily drive from one side of the island to the other, we have even taken the public bus a few times, but later in the day traffic can become an issue so it may take a little while longer to get from Point A to Point B. You can get a good overview of the hotels available in each area (and their prices) by searching 'saint maarten' at our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com. chan0110 Posted February 19, 2015 Author Report Posted February 19, 2015 Thanks for your insight! I think we want a relaxing place with good restaurants and things to do like go to the beach. Nightlife helps too, but we can easily cab to those places I'm thinking. So if we wanted to do the French side, there are only 2 hotels showing on Hotwire for those dates- I think one is the Esmeralda Hotel (the Hotwire hotel list only lists this one) at 4 stars. The other is this one, which I can't figure out:3.5* for $161FULL AMENITIES: Free parking, Free Internet, Pet friendly, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Internet accessStill gathering reviews. You wouldn't happen to have any ideas would you? Thanks!Marina
thereuare Posted February 19, 2015 Report Posted February 19, 2015 I couldn't say for certain, but my guess for the 3.5* would be the Alamanda Resort (and keep in mind the comments at the top of the Hotel List... if you need help with the 4* hotel please post the description for that one) Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. chan0110 Posted February 19, 2015 Author Report Posted February 19, 2015 Thank you! Yeah I'm not liking the looks of the Alamanda. Here is the 4* one- $121 for the dates from $232.FULL AMENITIES: Free parking, Free breakfast, Free Internet, Pet friendly, Pool(s), Business center, Internet access, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Accessible parking, Roll-in showerRating of 4 out of 5 on TripAdvisor. Thanks!
chan0110 Posted February 20, 2015 Author Report Posted February 20, 2015 FYI I booked through the Hotwire link and it was not Esmeralda as I thought it would be; it was Hotel la Plantation, if you want to update the hotel list! FYI most places list it as 3 stars bite Hotwire lists it as 4 stars.
thereuare Posted February 20, 2015 Report Posted February 20, 2015 Sorry to see this wasn't the hotel you were expecting, but hopefully you're still pleased with the outcome and will suit your needs for this trip. Thank you for using the HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your purchase and sharing your win, helping us add this property to the Hotwire Hotel List. Enjoy your stay.
