sc24 Posted February 15, 2015 Report Posted February 15, 2015 Hi, I'm going on a trip with some friends, it's 4 of us in total. Everyone wants their own bed or couch so we need 2 rooms. Am I better off using the "name your own price" or is priceline express a cheaper option? Thanks
AaronJB Posted February 15, 2015 Report Posted February 15, 2015 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)PRICELINE bidding is a cheaper option but requires more flexibility (you have to bid for a particular star rating in a particular zone or zones and then be willing to accept any of the hotels at that star rating in those zone/s.) What would be your desired budget per room/per night/star rating for this stay and which zones would be acceptable? Is a casino in the hotel a must? If so, I'd suggest PRICELINE EXPRESS or HOTWIRE - HOTWIRE has a $20 off coupon right now (LOVE20) Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases.
thereuare Posted February 15, 2015 Report Posted February 15, 2015 ... it's 4 of us in total. Everyone wants their own bed or couch so we need 2 rooms. Note that unless the PRICELINE EXPRESS property shows a 'Bed Choice' and one of the choices is a room with two beds, then all that is guaranteed is double occupancy, in which you could receive a room with only one bed. (same goes for 'bidding' on PRICELINE). While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request (and at the higher rated hotels in Las Vegas most now charge more for rooms with two beds, even when booking directly with them, so if the hotel is willing to 'upgrade' you to a room with two beds, there may be an additional fee to do). If the above not a risk you're willing to accept, HOTWIRE would still be an option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy and ensure sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search (although this usually means two beds, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway, etc) If you let us know the information asked above (desired star rating, zone(s), budget, etc) we will suggest your best options for this stay. sc24 Posted February 15, 2015 Author Report Posted February 15, 2015 thanks for the reply Desired budget: 220 per night for each room after all taxes and fees. could we get a 5 star for that rate? if we could spend less and get a nice hotel that would be great. casino is preferred. Want at least 4 stars and location needs to be on the strip
sc24 Posted February 15, 2015 Author Report Posted February 15, 2015 Thanks good point about hotwire allowing for searching to quad occupancy, I hadn't thought about that. a rollaway bed or sofa is fine. If we get a hotel with one king bed and they allow us to get a rollaway bed, that would work too (priceline name your own price). seems like most hotels don't allow rollaway beds though. do suites ever appear on the hotwire search? a suite would be great. we were originally looking at suites at hotel elara, but the prices jumped and i started looking at other options. elara is a timeshare with no casino or club inside so i figured there might be better options anyway. Want at least 4 stars and location needs to be on the strip. want to spend 220 or less per night for each room after all taxes and fees
AaronJB Posted February 15, 2015 Report Posted February 15, 2015 Note: you may see slightly different prices than I do on HOTWIRE. If the hotel is an all-suite property you will see "Suite" as one of the amenities. In Vegas, the Palazzo and Venetian are examples of this. PRICELINE EXPRESS listings occasionally show "bed choice" as an option. Usually the choices are variations on one bed (diff sizes) or two beds. However, occasionally, an upgrade such as "suite" will be an option. I am seeing what appears to be the Venetian/Palazzo on HOTWIRE, but for around $260 each. (or if searching for 4 adults in one room, around $350 each.) In terms of suite, I'm also seeing what appears to be the Jet Luxury at the Vdara for $149 (seeing the same whether 2 adults or 4), but that is run separately (I believe it's a service that rents out privately owned rooms at the hotel) and doesn't get very good reviews. Would any of the above be of interest? Plus, you can use coupon code LOVE20 for $20 off the total on HOTWIRE until it expires tomorrow night. sc24 Posted February 15, 2015 Author Report Posted February 15, 2015 260 after taxes and fees? palazzo/venetian would be greati've noticed the past few weeks (ive been price checking) that the hotel rates seem to be the cheapest on tuesday and wednesday, then from thursday night through sunday prices jump.ive been tracking elara and that pattern has stayed the same for 3 weeks
AaronJB Posted February 15, 2015 Report Posted February 15, 2015 260 after taxes and fees? palazzo/venetian would be greatUnfortunately, before. sc24 Posted February 15, 2015 Author Report Posted February 15, 2015 unfortunately that's more than what we want to spend, would end up being like 375-400 a night for each room right?
thereuare Posted February 15, 2015 Report Posted February 15, 2015 would end up being like 375-400 a night for each room right? Not sure of your math to get to $375-$400, but it would be less than that... you're likely looking at about $335 including taxes/fees, and the resort fee you would need to pay directly to the hotel. Using $265/nite as an example: Rate per night $265.00 Nights 3 Rooms ( up to 4 adults ) 2 Subtotal $1,590.00 Tax recovery charges + fees $269.02 Hotwire total $1,859.02 Estimated resort fee Pay at hotel $150.00 Trip total $2,009.02 I just did a few other searches and it appears that the Friday nite is the issue with this stay... is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? For example, you could stay for the last 2 nites at what appears to be the Venetian for $146/nite (before taxes/fees/resort fee)... then somewhere else for the first nite of your stay (i see the SLS for $126/nite, Tropicana for $189/nite, and perhaps some other options) Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. sc24 Posted February 15, 2015 Author Report Posted February 15, 2015 Yes you're correct, Friday is the expensive night. Splitting the rooms is an option. Do you think these prices will drop during the week? I've noticed prices for staying 3/27-3/30 are way cheaper when I look in Tuesday or Wednesday then what I see when I'm looking on Thursday or Friday How long does it take to find out if you won a bid using Priceline name your own price?
thereuare Posted February 15, 2015 Report Posted February 15, 2015 When replying to this thread please use the BIG BROWN 'ADD REPLY' button outside of the post (NOT the quote button inside of the post) as this will all the text from the previous thread from appearing in your new post (and prevent us from having to edit each post ;) ) Once you win a hotel use the 'ADD REPLY and REPORT WIN' button to edit the topic title to reflect your win and to provide the details of your purchase. Back to your trip... Nobody can say if rates will come down, or move even higher, between now and your trip... it's all dependent upon how actual new reservations/cancellations come in relative to expected new reservations/cancellations. How late in the day do you arrive on Friday? thereuare Posted February 16, 2015 Report Posted February 16, 2015 If you were arriving late in the evening it would be an easier decision as you might not be looking to do much upon your arrival other than go to the hotel and sleep. It comes down to how much you view changing hotels as an inconvenience vs. the savings that can be had vs. splitting/not splitting... but having a 5* hotel for the latter half of your stay would certainly be nice, as they are all great properties, imo, and it's seldom you can get rates like this anywhere else in the country for a 5 star property. sc24 Posted February 17, 2015 Author Report Posted February 17, 2015 @thereuare we will probably be splitting the hotel, that's no issue. how long does it take to find out if you won priceline name your own price?
Romelle Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 Usually one finds out the results of a bid in seconds. Occasionally it takes a few minutes. And there are rare occasions of up to a 1/2 hour. Romelle
thereuare Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 To further expand on Romelle's answer above... It's usually less than 60 seconds... it only takes longer if there is a technology issue on PRICELINE's backend (server bogged down with other requests, telecommunications issue accessing the inputted rates of the hotel, etc) at which point you'll likely receive a message "We will have an answer for you within 15 minutes"... in which case it's usually about 5 minutes.
