Hi Everyone, this is my very first post, I am very excited to be travelling to NY for the first time!

Was hoping to get some guidance on bidding for two separate stays in New York.

First a 5 night stay from the 4th April to the 8th April

and then...

A 2 night stay from the 15th to the 17th April

Wanting to stay in the Times Square , Mid Town West preferably. Hoping to secure for $220p/n or lower if possible.

If in your expert advice you think it would be difficult to do for that price I'm willing to look at securing a 3 1/2* including the Mid Town West or Hells Kitchen areas.

Thank you in advance for your help :)

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Please use separate threads for each leg of your stay as this will make it easier to follow the advice for each stay as well as enable the topic title of each thread to be used for the hotel ultimately won.

We will use this thread for the first leg of your trip, feel free to start a NEW TOPIC for the 2nd leg of your stay.

To get started for this first leg, you listed your dates as 'First a 5 night stay from the 4th April to the 8th April'... but this is only 4 nites; do you need 4 nites (5 days) in NYC, is your checkout date April 9th, or something else?

I'll speculate that you're coming for a cruise, which is why you are trying to focus on the Hell's Kitchen and MTW zones? If so, i do think you can get a 4* hotel within your budget in one of these two zones, HOWEVER, i would also consider other zones of the city. Hell's Kitchen is close to the terminal but much of the zone where the hotels are located is not that convenient to the subway, so better to get a hotel that is convenient for your plans of exploring the city during your stay rather than trying to be close to the ship for the one time you will need to go there after your stay. From most of midtown a taxi will only run you $10-$15 so better to choose a hotel with a convenient location and know that it will be easy enough to get to the cruise ship terminal no matter where in the city you are.

Here are my thoughts on some zones at the 4* level:

MTW, TS, MSG, ESB --> all generally considered to be well located and convenient to mass transit

MTE - most hotels are well located, but a few can be up to a 10-15 minute walk to the subway

Chelsea - hotels can be up to a 10 minute walk to the subway but this is a 'hot' area right now with lots of restaurants, boutiques, cafes, clubs, etc. so it's still considered a very desirable and often bid area

CPS - well located but contains the Hudson Hotel which has notoriously small rooms (even by NYC standards)

HK - not frequently bid as most of the 'known' hotels in this area are in the western part of the zone

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases.

Let us know your thoughts on zones and how you would like to proceed and we'll take it from there.

PS- if i'm correctl that this is a pre/post cruise stay, you can also see our sister site Pre Cruise Hotels to get a feel of where the zones/hotels are relative to the cruise ship terminal ;)

Thank you so much for your advice so far. My apologies for posting both on one thread. Let's use this one to focus on the first trip as you suggested.

Sorry about the confusion over dates, I require 4 nights 5 days so checking in the 4th April and checking out the 8th April.

We are heading down to Florida for 7 days and then come back to NY for 2 days before we depart back home to Sydney, Australia. I was hoping to stay in the Times Square area as its centrally located and we will be spending a lot of time shopping/exploring Times Square and seeing Broadway shows. So the TS, MTW, MSG and ESB regions that you mentioned sound ideal for us.

Thanks again for taking the time to give such an excellent and detailed response, it is much appreciated. :)

I'll also note I'm seeing what appears to be the Grand Hyatt for $193, Omni Berkshire for $216, W New York for $180 and what I'm guessing may be the Crowne Plaza TS or Millennium Broadway (although more likely the former) for $210. All on Hot.wire and you can use coupon code LOVE20 for $20 off the total.

Let us know if any of these listings would be of interest and we would be happy to point out which listing on Hot.wire may be which.

Thanks so much for your help with bidding. I wasn't lucky enough to win bidding via Price.line so I picked up a instant deal via Hot.wire.com

It was a mystery hotel 3 1/2 star times square area for $1066.00AU total.

I crossed my fingers whilst booking and it turned out to be "The Row" NYC.

I am very happy, I've been looking at that hotel and the cheapest it's advertised online for is $1400.00AU for my stay so I saved a little over $300.00

Thanks again and best wishes!
