Priceline Hotel: 4* Brussels (Brussels City Center - Grand Palace) B-Aparthotels Regent

I booked a 4* Hotel in Brussels however was allocated an apartment instead. On TripAdvisor it was rated as 3*.

My main concern is that the apartment building is not staffed and that we are required to call up in advance to obtain door codes etc. If we have any queries then all communications are done by telephone or by "walky-talky" with non-English speaking people. I would have expected to have a reception and staff on site with a 4* hotel booking, not an unstaffed apartment building.

Are my concerns justified, or is this situation common?

And to add insult to injury, I found the apartment on offer at another website for a substantially cheaper price. It seems the only way I can claim their price-guarantee is by calling a 1-800 number which is not valid from the country I am located in.

It is B-Aparthotels Regent in Brussels, $325.17 for 3 nights.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Please start by reading your messages.

To clarify, was this a winning 'bid' (where you named the price) or was this a PRICELINE EXPRESS deal? If the latter, do you recall the amenities that were associated with this property and showed before your purchase?

What was the room rate per nite?

Please let us know the above and we will better be able to comment on your post above.

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases.

This was a winning bid.

The price works out to $108.39/night.

I've only used Priceline once before. But am disappointed and not staying in a hotel, and of course paying more than other booking sites!

Not sure if this is a common occurrence for other people or not!

Priceline includes the hotel on their retail side, and rates it a 4* there.  With an 8.2 out of 10 guest rating.

"Apartment" hotels are not unusual in Europe.

I'm a member, not a board official here, but I think you'll have a challenge getting out of this bid.

Regarding the better rate you've found, you might try either emailing Priceline or seeing if your country has a phone number listed on this list I obtained from the Priceline web site.

English is very common in Europe, so it is quite unlikely you'll have to deal with an non-English speaking person.

What was your bid amount? (if you didn't bid in US Dollars just let us know the amount of the bid you placed and the currency as our backend systems will take care of it when posted in the topic title)

Also, what were the dates of your stay?

Hi

Thanks for the reply, it's reassuring to know that the apartment style hotels there are not entirely uncommon. I'm not interested in getting out of the bid, but would have preferred to be moved to an actual hotel. I Did call Priceline and of course they refused to budge on the booking, which wasn't unexpected.

They were pretty cheeky when I rang and did deny any refund of the better advertised on the normal booking website I use - first talking about taxes, then exchange rates, and eventually saying it was not eligible because I logged in to Agoda to obtain the price, even though the price was the same with or without logging in. I thought it was some kind of joke and the call got terminated unexpectedly.

Then very shortly afterwards I received a reply to my email I had sent earlier in the day in which they accepted the price guarantee and they had refunded the amount to my card already. I was happy about that, of course. Not sure if it was co-incidence after I had just been denied over the phone, or what.

Cheers,

P.S. The bid price was NZD130/night. Total price paid was NZD438.12, and it was NZD388.35 on Agoda.
