mynameisbob Posted February 9, 2015 Report Posted February 9, 2015 Hello everyone! I've been reading past posts and see that some people have been able to get some great deals. I've tried to create my own bidding strategy, I've checked out Hotwire, I've checked out the Express deals, and all of the prices are exhorbitant. It may be because I'm trying to book to late, or maybe because it's Valentine's day weekend? Anyway, I'm willing to bid up to 125 a night (without taxes) - and I was hoping you could help me out with a strategy. I will, of course, keep on using the useful Priceline and HOTWIRE links posted throughout the site and post my success story (I'm sure it will be) :-)The room is for oneCheck in 2/14, check out 2/16 (two nights)While in my wildest dreams I'd love to stay in a 5 star hotel, 3.5 and up will do.These are the areas I wouldn't have a problem staying in areCentral Park SouthChelseaDowntown - Financial DistrictEmpire State building AreaHell’s KitchenMadison Square Garden - Convention AreaMidtown EastMidtown WestTimes Square - Theatre DistrictUpper East SideUpper West SideThank you so much in advance for your help!
thereuare Posted February 9, 2015 Report Posted February 9, 2015 Welcome to BetterBidding! To confirm, have you already bid all of the zones above and at what price and what star rating? At the moment I don't think your budget of $125/nite is realistic for these dates, since as you have learned, these nites are expensive (as you suspected likely due to Valentine's Day) Are your dates flexible at all, as i do think you could be successful if bidding only the nite of 2/15 or for the nites of 2/15-2/17. Also, are you familiar with NYC, as some of the zones above, such as UES, UWS, DT/Financial, HK above are not that most convenient (but do-able for the right price) or are known to have very small rooms (the Hudson Hotel in the CPS zone)... but maybe you're aware but willing to accept these zones in order to stay within budget. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. mynameisbob Posted February 9, 2015 Author Report Posted February 9, 2015 Thank you so much for your fast reply! I really appreciated it. I did bid yesterday night on all those zones, 3.5 stars. I created a strategy (I'm sure it wasn't that good) and it took me close to three hours.I am familiar with New York, and I really don't mind a small room as long as it's at least 3.5* and within my price range and in those areas.125 being unrealistic, how does 150 sound?I'm going for work during the week and staying just for fun for the weekend, so unfortunately the dates are not flexible.
thereuare Posted February 9, 2015 Report Posted February 9, 2015 We can suggest a strategy for you to try up to whatever amount you choose, but my guess is that at current prices you're likely looking at something in the $225 area for a 3.5* or better for these nites. To get an idea of what you're facing, using our BiddingHelper.com and search for just the nite of 2/14... look at the rates in the HOTWIRE, PRICELINE EXPRESS, and Hotels by Name tab... even worse than when looking at the two nites together! As noted we'd be happy to suggest a strategy for whatever you would like to try, but i think you're either going to need to: 1) raise your budget 2) lower your star rating 3) consider staying outside of Manhattan and commuting in 4) SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID, 'compromising' with something less than ideal (any of the 3 previous items above) for the first nite and then getting something for about an acceptable $120/nite price for Sunday Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. mynameisbob Posted February 10, 2015 Author Report Posted February 10, 2015 After giving it some thought, I've decided I'm going to stay with a friend at his place. It seems it will be too expensive and I'd rather spend my money on other things. Thanks so much for your willingness to help!
thereuare Posted February 10, 2015 Report Posted February 10, 2015 Free is a good price! :) Thank you for closing this thread with your decision. Have a great time in NYC. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
