manhattan01 Posted January 29, 2015 Report Posted January 29, 2015 I've used Priceline a few times in the past and am familiar with the strategy but never for SFO. My stay there will be for 1 night, March 7, 2015. Looking at 4.0 stars or higher (I could go to 3.5 stars if required). Desired budget is $150. This might be the tricky part but I'll be with my family (4 of us in total) so two beds would be required - not sure how to swing that yet. Thanks in advance!
AaronJB Posted January 30, 2015 Report Posted January 30, 2015 Welcome to Betterbidding. :) Which zone/s would be acceptable? You could likely get a 4* within your desired budget, as there's even a 4* in USE on Hot.wire for $128 (you may see a slightly different price.)Sharing any prior wins (as separate threads) would be greatly appreciated, as the information does still help other users - thanks. Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches. Enjoy your stay.
manhattan01 Posted January 30, 2015 Author Report Posted January 30, 2015 Thanks. Never tried hotwire and will definitely post any successful bids.As for areas, anywhere IN San Francisco is good so not the airport, San Mateo, Burlingame, etc.
thereuare Posted January 30, 2015 Report Posted January 30, 2015 This might be the tricky part but I'll be with my family (4 of us in total) so two beds would be required - not sure how to swing that yet. PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed. While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request. If this is not a risk you're willing to accept, HOTWIRE would still be a option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy and ensure sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search (although this usually means two beds, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway, etc) Searching HOTWIRE for 2adults/2children i see a 4* hotel offered in the USE zone for $125/nite with: Pet Friendly Fitness Restaurant Business Hi-Speed Internet Blind Accessible Deaf Accessible Travel Accessible Room Accessible Bathroom Accessible Handicapped Parking Roll-in Shower ... best guess for this one would be the Parc 55 Wyndham, Sir Francis Drake, or the InterContinental Mark Hopkins (all three have previously been seen with this amenity set) Does this HOTWIRE offer work for your needs OR how would you like to proceed? manhattan01 Posted January 30, 2015 Author Report Posted January 30, 2015 Does this HOTWIRE offer work for your needs OR how would you like to proceed? Yes...I think this should work. When I do book, I will use the links but a question on Hotwire (I apologize this being in the SFO Priceline sub-forum). I know priceline bidding generally gets better closer to towards the dates of my stay. Is that also true for Hotwire? In other words, would it be better for me to purchase on Hotwire now, closer to March 7th or it doesn't matter? Thanks!
AaronJB Posted January 30, 2015 Report Posted January 30, 2015 Prices getting better closer to your stay is definitely not a given. This was seen more commonly around and after 2008, but as demand has returned, there is also the definite possibility (and it's seen quite often) that rates can just as easily go the other way (and quickly.) Given San Francisco's noticeable demand increase in recent years, while I don't know about March, I wouldn't gamble too much on rates going lower. Price.line and Hot.wire the same - rates can fluctuate often in both directions and inventory can change at any time (the above Hot.wire listing may be available from now until your stay or the listing may be gone/changed if inventory for that hotel for those dates runs out.) manhattan01 Posted January 30, 2015 Author Report Posted January 30, 2015 Much appreciated. I'll bid soon and post any successes in the Hotwire SFO sub. Wish me luck!
thereuare Posted January 30, 2015 Report Posted January 30, 2015 Please keep all posts, and wins, for these dates in this thread. Once you purchase a hotel use the 'ADD REPLY and REPORT WIN' button on the lower right corner of this tread which will give you a form to use to edit the topic title and to provide the details of your purchase. The entire thread will then automatically be moved (if necessary) to the correct section of the board. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Thanks,.
