jo-k Posted January 23, 2015 Report Posted January 23, 2015 Hey there,Typical girls trip to NYC - 3 nights stay from April 9 - 12, quad occupancy for one room. We will be using the Hotwire link from BetterBidding to make our purchase. I know that April begins the spring tourism season for NYC, so hotel prices will start to increase. I've also read on the forum about using Hotwire for quad occupancy room and calling Hotwire after booking to see if they can contact the hotel manager to ensure that the room will have two beds.Requirements:- Apr 9 - Apr 12- quad occupancy- any star rating- in Manhattan (preferably not in the Bronx)- budget: approx $180-200USD/night Q1: Via the BiddingHelper link, I've found this one property. Could you help me ID? Is it the Sohotel?2* East Village / Lower East Side$159USD/night ; 65% recommendedAmenities: Free Internet, Self-service laundry, Internet access, Accessible for hearing impaired, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Roll-in showerQ2: I assume that using Hotwire with quad occupancy is the best way to book a quad occupancy room. Otherwise, I would prefer to Name Your Own Price via PL, but as they only book double occupancy and not all hotels do quad occupancies, I'd be taking a risk, is that correct? As well, even if they do quad occupancies, the cost of adding two additional people per room may end up being more than what we had budgeted. Is that correct?Q3: With such a low budget, would you recommend going out of Manhattan and commuting in? I've been to NYC a few times and have found the subway quite accessible. If so, what area would you suggest for best value (best value meaning at the highest * rating within our budget and close to a subway stop)? Thanks for your help in advice! I will be using the BetterBidding Hotwire link for my purchase.
AaronJB Posted January 24, 2015 Report Posted January 24, 2015 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)The issue with NYC is that rooms are small or very small, even at higher star ratings. Rooms with two beds are not often available and a hotel may say no to an upgrade request. You may not have a problem requesting two beds in some cities (Orlando), but in NYC, getting two beds is highly unlikely. Hot.wire is a better choice, as you can indicate the amount of people in the party, which should result in bedding for everyone (that may mean 2 beds or 1 + rollaway or 1 + sofabed.) The 2* unfortunately has not yet been ID'd/reported to the board. I am seeing a 3* in MTC for $179 (you may see a slightly different price) w/Smoke Free, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Kitchenette, Deaf Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Roll-in Shower. - This would be a possible match for the Salisbury, which is a very nice basic property in an outstanding location. Let us know what you decide and if you have additional questions. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
jo-k Posted January 24, 2015 Author Report Posted January 24, 2015 Thanks AaronJB. I'll update on what happens next and what we decide. Thanks for your insight! I definitely appreciate it. :)You're right, MTC is an even better location.
AaronJB Posted January 24, 2015 Report Posted January 24, 2015 Happy to help! :) Please let us know what you decide and if you have additional questions. MTC is a bit more expensive, unfortunately, but if it's moderately more expensive and if you stay somewhere else (Lower East Side, etc) and planned to commute to Midtown, there's transit costs (and time/effort) there that wouldn't be an issue if you were staying in Midtown. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
