classicalbass Posted January 17, 2015 Report Posted January 17, 2015 I see a listing for a 2-1/2* hotel in the Austin Southwest, 2/5 - 2/9, for $32. It has the amenities we want but the price seems so low it makes me think I am missing something. It lists a Tripadvisor rating of 3.5 and Hotwire customers satified at 70%. It lists example hotels that I would expect for 2-1/2 stars, Ramada, Best Western, Holiday Inn Express, The Hamptons, Four Points. Zooming in on that area using the Tripadvisor map tool, I see the least expensive hotel is the Extended Stay America with a 3.5 TA rating so I am assuming this is the hotel we would get. I am new to Hot.wire and this offer makes me uneasy. Am I reading this correctly? Does anyone have experience with this part of Austin? Thanks!
AaronJB Posted January 17, 2015 Report Posted January 17, 2015 Welcome to Betterbidding. :) Please provide the full list of amenities showing with the listing and we would be happy to try to ID. If you repeat your search using our Bidding.Helper.com tool... use the HOTWIRE EASY VIEW tab and then click the GREEN BUTTON next to this listing, do you see: Suite, Complimentary Breakfast, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Laundry, Free Parking, Pet Friendly If so, this listing has not yet been ID'd/reported to the board, but I'd guess the Extended Stay Austin Southwest may have been upgraded to 2.5* since it was last reported to the board. If this potential possibility is not of interest, please let us know more about what you are looking for (budget, star rating, acceptable zones) and we can make some suggestions or if there is another listing that would be of interest and we would be happy to help. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted January 17, 2015 Report Posted January 17, 2015 ... and as per the message in the red box at the top of the page, please read your messages. Thanks! Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
classicalbass Posted January 17, 2015 Author Report Posted January 17, 2015 Free parking, free breakfast, free internet, pet friendly, suite, self-service laundry.Thanks.
classicalbass Posted January 17, 2015 Author Report Posted January 17, 2015 The more I look at this, the more I think this is very likely the Extended Stay America because of the "suite" listing in the amenities.
AaronJB Posted January 17, 2015 Report Posted January 17, 2015 That would be my guess as well. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches. Let us know what you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help.
classicalbass Posted January 17, 2015 Author Report Posted January 17, 2015 I looked at the TripAdvisor reviews for just the last year for this place and they don't look good, so that's probably why the price is so low. Now I'm sitting on the fence - perfect location for us and having a kitchen is wonderful, but do we want to chance getting a bad room? (rhetorical question)
AaronJB Posted January 17, 2015 Report Posted January 17, 2015 Unfortunately, rates for similar properties in the zone look quite a bit higher otherwise. Rates are definitely above average downtown (possibly a convention or other event?), so I think there's a good deal of spillover to the nearby outlying areas on these dates. I'm seeing what may be the La Quinta Mopac North for $52 and what may be the Lakeway Resort and Spa for $80. Would either of these be of interest? There are properties closer to the core of Austin, but for around $90-100 and higher. Thank you for keeping us updated on what you decide and let us know if you have additional questions. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
classicalbass Posted January 18, 2015 Author Report Posted January 18, 2015 Thank you, Aaron, for adding the interpretation that rates are higher than usual. We will talk about this and consider looking a little farther south, like Buda/Kyle, since we are sightseeing/hiking a larger area than just Austin. It might be a couple of days before I can get back to this. Thanks for your attention!
AaronJB Posted January 18, 2015 Report Posted January 18, 2015 Very happy to help! classicalbass Posted January 21, 2015 Author Report Posted January 21, 2015 I found an offer at PRICELINE EXPRESS Deals and decided to take it: $57/night with a guest rating over 80%. (plus tax and fees = $67.88) I took this offer because the area was small enough that I was confident it would be the La Quinta Inn and Suites, Kyle, TX, for with a TripAdvisor score of 4.5 out of 5. (There were no other hotels in that area with a rating that high.) I was tempted to bid through PL for this area, but a fridge and microwave were specifically included in this offer, which we wanted. Amenities list: Indoor or Outdoor Pool, Pets Allowed, Fitness Center, Free Parking, Free Internet, Free Breakfast, Business Center (plus fridge and microwave.) Thank you for your input!
AaronJB Posted January 21, 2015 Report Posted January 21, 2015 Congrats on your success. :) Very nice win for this property and hope you are looking forward to your stay. Thank you for letting us know about this new PRICELINE EXPRESS property so that we can update the site's Priceline Hotel List. Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches. Enjoy your stay.
