Priceline Hotel: Best Winter Dates in NYC

I am planning a trip to NYC for my wife and me. We would like to go in the winter (Nov 2015-Jan 2016) to be able to see the city with all the holiday lights and atmosphere, but we are flexible with which dates we go. I know that winter is prime tourism season for tourism to NYC, but am still a guy who loves finding the best deal. I am wondering if there are any dates that are historically cheaper. For example, would the same hotel charge less the week before Christmas, or the week after? When do room prices drop down after new years eve?

 

Some specifics on our trip:

2 adults

It will be our first trip to NYC (I've been twice, but she has never been), so we'll be doing the classic stops - empire state bldg, central park, broadway show, etc.

I would like to spend about $200/night if possible, and would obviously like the best quality hotel/location I could find.

Historically your best time to visit for a 'deal' would be after Dec 15 (give or take a few days depending upon what day of the week this falls next year) up until a few days before New Year's Eve. After New Year's rates are inexpensive thru most of January and February (excluding a few days here and there, such as Valentine's Day). However, the holiday displays and tree at Rock Center don't stay up for that long after the holidays... by the first or second week of January many of them are gone.

For this time of year your budget is plenty... 4* hotels this time of year can often be had in the $100-$140 range (plus or minus depending upon actual dates of travel)
