zivy Posted January 6, 2015 Report Posted January 6, 2015 I come from Singapore and it was really a mindblowing experience for me to learn about Priceline. To be honest, there are so much information in the net which allows you to make a more informed information. Honestly, I do not usually post on forums, but i really think the information i got from here is simply too useful. I saw this thread with diagrams about zoning and the strategy to play this bidding game. To me, i think it is more of a strategy game. As i am going for a highend hotel, I had a look at the possible hotel list in the area and i took down notes on which area has what type of hotels (note the maximum star ratings). I started bidding at Bund Center (hoping to get Marriot Hotel Shanghai) at about 60usd (please note i am bidding in sgd dollars). As there are alot of zones with less than 5 stars, i chose them on my second bid (crossing fingers that it indeed work) and viola....i failed again... In all, I tried bidding an extra six times, each creeping up about 3-5 dollars. Cannot really recall how much I increase but in the end, i got the offer at 86usd. It was not a big saving if i were to get Marriot Hotel but i was happy and my partner was happy too. There is a sale on Hilton today on the standard price page. Anyways, after calculating, i still save about 107usd on three days. In summary: 1) start with zone with high star value2) expand your search with lower star value but continuing with your preference for the same high star value3) creep small if there are many zones to expand into but jump much if there are few zones. 4) search up the hotel list in this forum to see potential hotels Hope it helps and feel free to comment. I cannot believe i only experience this only at the age of 26.

Glad to hear you found the information on the board helpful with your purchase and that you're pleased with the results. The dates in your topic title (3/4/15-6/5/15) are incorrect, and i assume you used a combination of US/non-US format... can you please add a reply to this thread with the correct dates of your stay so we can add this information to the topic title and have your win appear correctly in the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins and Priceline Maps. zivy Posted January 12, 2015 Author Report Posted January 12, 2015 My apologies. 3/4/15-6/4/15 are the dates i am staying in Shanghai. Looking forward to my stay there. Now I am helping my girlfriend to secure a place in Singapore. Can't wait to introduce to my friends about this good website! Priceline, are you ready to come into the Asia market?? :P
thereuare Posted January 12, 2015 Report Posted January 12, 2015 Thanks for the follow-up... we have edited your topic title to reflect the correct dates (US format) PRICELINE used to have separate sites for each of their markets but later found it better to have the same format for each and go thru the US/.com PRICELINE site. If you'd like help with, or to report a win for, your girlfriend's Singapore stay feel free to start a NEW TOPIC. Glad to hear you like the site and thanks for helping to spread the word about BetterBidding! :) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
