Fred3621 Posted December 3, 2014 Report Posted December 3, 2014 Does anyone know what the hotels are for the new map breakdown? I see that when clicking on a 5* in Priceline, some of the areas say "7+." That seems pretty low and certainly doesn't make me think that I would get Le Meridien (under zone #3). Thanks for any advice.
thereuare Posted December 4, 2014 Report Posted December 4, 2014 Welcome (officially) to BetterBidding! We will add this region to the list of areas that need to be updated. If you have made any PRICELINE or HOTWIRE purchases in the 4+ years since joining the board, it would be appreciated if you started to share your wins so that others can benefit from the information, just as you are trying to benefit from those who have posted before you. The user review rating numbers next to the zone name on the bidding side of PRICELINE is the minimum user review rating for all hotels in the zone that PRICELINE offers at that star rating... not the user review rating of a specific hotel that you would be bidding on. (whereas on PRICELINE EXPRESS the user review rating is for a specific hotel) What are the dates of your upcoming trip? What is your maximum bid for this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Thanks. Fred3621 Posted December 4, 2014 Author Report Posted December 4, 2014 Thanks, will do. It seems there's a lot of risk now getting a 5* hotel that isn't that great. So while the 7+ rating is just a minimum, it's a real possibility. For the amount of money needed to bid for a 5*, that doesn't seem to be a prudent risk. It's one thing if I know I'm going to get Le Meridien, and a whole other thing if I'm going to get Vienna Marriott or Hilton, which get slightly above average user reviews. I remember getting Le Meridien about 4years ago bidding $97 one time, and another time $121. It was the same trip, just different days bid separately.

thereuare Posted December 4, 2014 Report Posted December 4, 2014 Is $100-$120 what you were looking to pay for a 'good' 5* this time around as well? If not possible, what is your current gameplan for this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Fred3621 Posted December 4, 2014 Author Report Posted December 4, 2014 I would bid/pay that if I thought I would get Le Meridien.
Fred3621 Posted December 4, 2014 Author Report Posted December 4, 2014 I'm just concerned that I would get something other than Le Meridien in that zone--the other possibilities are not as nice. It looks like Vienna Marriott and Hilton Vienna are the other two "5-stars" that are possibilities in this re-zoned area, zone #3. So as I previously mentioned, the risk seems much higher now than before, when those two latter hotels were not possibilities in the "Museum Quarter" zone. This re-zone has changed the risk of bidding in my view. So my question is basically, what hotels have people won in this new re-zone and especially around those dates in late December. Is there a reason to believe that a bidder won't get the Marriott Vienna or Hilton Vienna instead of Le Meridien??
thereuare Posted December 4, 2014 Report Posted December 4, 2014 HOTWIRE has a 5* hotel for $123/nite in the City Center - Opera - Ringstrasse Boulevard zone with a 95% recommendation from previous guests and a 4.5/5.0 TA rating and these amenities (NOTE: there is a different 5* hotel in the zone similarly priced so make sure you choose the correct one): Free Internet Pet Friendly Indoor Pool Fitness Pool Restaurant Business Hi-Speed Internet Spa Travel Accessible Room Accessible Wheelchair Accessible Handicapped Parking Roll-in Shower ... the Le Meridien has previously been seen with this amenity set and my best guess for this one (and if by chance it's some other property, you're still assured of a very nice property given the 4.5/5.0 TA rating ;) ) Does this work for your needs? Fred3621 Posted December 5, 2014 Author Report Posted December 5, 2014 Thanks so much--that was a huge assist!! I used the HOTWIRE link and I'll make sure to do it going forward. A lot of the risk was eliminated thanks to you. Since the win turned out to be Le Meridien for my dates, I'm going to be in Vienna a few dates later as well. So I used your HOTWIRE link to book another block of time (1/3/15 to 1/6/15) and I won Le Meridien again for $95/night ($112/night including all taxes and fees). For the first set of dates, the $122/night price, when all taxes and fees included, worked out to $143/night. Thanks again!
