Hey guys, a friend just directed me to this site and from the little reading I've done so far it is awesome!!

Looking for a hotel for New York for December 4th (Thursday) to the 8th (Monday).  Was hoping that a last minute deal would be possible, but seems like that may not be the case.  Anyways, I've never used Hotwire or Priceline before but have been playing around a bit.

Hoping for a 4star, althought depending on the quality drop 3 or 3.5 may be okay, and the areas I've been looking at are Times Square, Midtown Central, Midtown East and Madison Square Garden.  Really want to keep to a central location so most things are relatively close.  I understand that this is a busy time and that central hotels are going to be more expensive.......blindly optimistic though :D

What is realistic price wise?  A hotwire search provides 336 CAD as the lowest price.  Would it be possible to get something for between 200 - 250 CAD or so with Priceline bidding?  Really trying to find a decent balance between price and quality.

I've seen the Roosevelt mentioned a few times and that place looks pretty swanky......is a place like that unrealistic for under 300?

Thanks in advance for whatever help you guys may be able to provide.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

If you haven't yet, please start by reading your messages.

Please post prices/budget in terms of US Dollars as it makes rates consistent throughout the board and not subject to interpretation given future currency fluctuations.

When bidding on PRICELINE there is no way to target, or avoid, a specific property... you need to be willing to accept any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) that you choose.

What appears to be the Empire Hotel is offered for $266/nite and would be very well located, but this property has notoriously small rooms (even by NYC standards) but i mention it in case location and budget is more important to you than comfort.

I'm also seeing what looks like The Lexington for $285/nite or the 3.5* Hotel Boutique at Grand Central for $270/nite.

Are any of the above of interest OR do you want to try bidding for any hotel in the zone at a lower rate? I don't think that something under $250CAD will likely be successful, although $250US has a change (although far from a 'sure thing' at current prices)

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.

Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there.

Hey, thanks a lot for the reply, great info!!

The Lexington looks nice (if that's what it is), little more than I was hoping to spend but might be worth it.  With tax and exchange the price creeps up more than I'd like though....

Possible to get similar quality for 250US?  I'll go higher but not a lot.  285US would probably be the limit.

Comfort also matters along with location and price, so I'd probably pass on the one that appears to be the Empire hotel, unless the price was a lot lower.

Is it worth trying for 250US for something similar to the Lexington or is the deal for 285 as good as it's going to get?   Would definitiely like to keep it at 4 stars if at all possible.....

Thanks again for your help, this is fun.....and stressful.....lol

The PRICELINE EXPRESS property guessed to be The Lexington is currently priced at $273/nite, so assuming Times Square, Midtown West, Midtown East and Madison Square Garden are all still acceptable, below is a bidding strategy that starts low and goes up to $265 (which accounts for the additional discount available using the link/code in my signature, expires tonite)...

When bidding 4* in NYC you have TWO re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Unfortunately, this is just a very tough period of the year, as the first half of December is really the prime period for holiday shopping/festivities. It's after the 15th that rates start to come down. The concern becomes that it's the last minute and rates could still possibly move higher if traffic remains high. If you see the potential Lexington listing when searching, are you able to click to purchase? This evening it's saying for me the listing is no longer available.

Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Thanks for all the help with this guys!

I tried the bidding strategy but to no avail.

I'm going to do some more searching and I'll probably make a decision tonight.

I'll keep using the Hotwire/Priceline links here to search.

I'm seeing what I'm guessing may be the Martha Washington Chelsea on Hot.wire for $240 (you may see a slightly different price.)  Would this be of interest? Not what you were originally looking for, but unfortunately rates appear to have moved a bit higher as the stay gets closer.

Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Is the Martha Stewart one a 3.5 star?  I have one for 234 in the Empire State area.

That's a little further away then I would like, but it looks like a nice hotel and the price is good.....

Do you know what that Central Park South one on Priceline might be?  It's a 4 star for 265.

haha, just noticed I called that Martha Washington hotel the Martha Stewart.....haha, I'm dumb.

So I might be leaning towards whatever the Central Park South one on Priceline.....there's really no information about the hotel though.  Any thoughts on what it might be?  I haven't really looked in that area so I don't have a guess.

Sorry guys, scratch all this, the girlfriend just booked Yotel through their website.  She found a discount code and the room ended up being 285/night.  Place looks cool, small rooms but good location.  I guess we'll see......next time I'll give myself more time.

Thanks again for all the help with this whole thing.  I'll def use you guys for future trips.
