MDJW1 Posted November 3, 2014 Report Posted November 3, 2014 Need help with bidding for a 4-4+ Star MTW Hotel for 11/12-11/14. I was hoping to bid $175. Would like the hotel to have a fitness center. And If possible room with mini fridge since I'm traveling with a friend who has dietary needs and need to refrigerate certain items.
thereuare Posted November 3, 2014 Report Posted November 3, 2014 Welcome to BetterBidding! If you bid on PRICELINE you won't be able to guarantee a Fitness Center or a refrigerator, although most (but not all) hotels have some sort of way to accommodate those who need to refrigerate medicine. If a Fitness Center and/or mini-refrigerator is a must have (vs. a want) then you'll need to use HOTWIRE and choose a hotel that shows the Fitness Center and/or Kitchenette amenity (although i'll add that a Kitchenette is a rare amenity in NYC at the 4* level... although hotels at this star level may be better prepared to accommodate your needs in some other manner (ie- keeping it in the hotel's restaurant refrigerator OR in the staff room, etc)) Lastly, is MTW the only zone you're willing to accept, as at current rates i think $175 may be a bit though for a 4* hotel in this zone... although if you're willing to consider other midtown zones which are generally considered to be well located (TS, MSG, ESB, etc) i think you can get a 4* within your budget. MDJW1 Posted November 3, 2014 Author Report Posted November 3, 2014 The fitness center is a want, not a need. I guess if need be my girlfriend can utilize the hotel's frig. I am willing to bid for a 4 Star. I have seen on Priceline's Express Deal tab, a 3 star hotel in MTW for $167. It's flagged as guest favorite and has a fitness center symbol. Any idea which hotel this may be?I also see on Express Deal a MSG 3star for $192. Offering free breakfast. Also flagged as guest favorite. Any idea which one this can be?
thereuare Posted November 3, 2014 Report Posted November 3, 2014 I guess if need be my girlfriend can utilize the hotel's frig.Keep in mind use of the hotel's refrigerator is not guaranteed. Any idea which one this can be?As your previous goal was a 4* for $175 or less, and each of these PRICELINE EXPRESS offers are either higher priced or lower star rated, is your objective to first try bidding for a 4* property? Lastly, is MTW the only zone you're willing to accept, as at current rates i think $175 may be a bit though for a 4* hotel in this zone... although if you're willing to consider other midtown zones which are generally considered to be well located (TS, MSG, ESB, etc) i think you can get a 4* within your budget.??? MDJW1 Posted November 3, 2014 Author Report Posted November 3, 2014 I apologize. I was confused by your first reply when you said "...a bit though.." I read that as you thinking $175 was too low for MTW. Did you mean that $175 for MTW was a bit high for a 4 Star hotel? The reason I chose MTW is because it's closest to CPS, which is where I rather be so we can take advantage of walking in the park and the museums. But I know hotels in CPS are expensive. An alternative would be UWS, since again near Central Park and more of a residential feel with more options of decent priced places to eat.So if u can give me bid suggestions for the following as well as areas you think I should think of, I would appreciate it.ALL 4 STARMTWUWSTSMidtown EastThanks
thereuare Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 At current rates i do think that $175 will likely be too low for a 4* hotel in the MTW zone. HOWEVER, don't exclude zones simply because you think they will be more than your budget, as including more zones gives more hotels the opportunity to accept your bid price (so it improves your chances of a win) and also gives you more bidding opportunities (which allows you to increase your bids in smaller increments). Do note that the Hudson Hotel is a 4* property in the CPS zone which has notoriously small rooms (even by NYC standards) so if you do decide to include CPS in your bidding you'd need to be willing to accept this property as a possible outcome (which may or may not be fine for your needs since this is a short 2 nite stay and perhaps location is more important than room size/comfort). If you are willing to accept the Hudson as a possible outcome i do think you can get a 4* hotel in this zone for $175/nite. MDJW1 Posted November 4, 2014 Author Report Posted November 4, 2014 Again, I'm confused by your reply. It appears you left off an important word in your sentence "At current rates i do think that $175 will likely be too for a 4* hotel in the MTW zone". Did you mean to type "too low" or "too high"?
AaronJB Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 $175 may be a tad low for MTW. Would the Hudson be an acceptable possibility if bidding CPS? Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 Sorry about that... must be not enough sleep as we did some server upgrades in the wee hours of the morning yesterday... AaronJB clarified correctly, at current prices my belief is that $175 would likely be too low for these dates. HOWEVER, just like with CPS, that doesn't mean that you should exclude this zone in your bidding... if the zone is acceptable, by including it you get more bidding opportunities and the worst that can happen is that you win a hotel for less than you thought was possible.
