Hello,

I need some help bidding for a hotel in NYC on Priceline.

I am looking to spend no more than $200/per night with 3 star minimum.

The areas I'm looking for in order of preference are:

1. Times Square

2. Soho

3. Midtown West

4. Madison Square Garden

5. Chelsea

Any guidance on the best way to bid would be appreciated.

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Few questions to get started:

-are you willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel OR is the goal the least expensive 3* or better for this stay?

-what is more important... are you willing to pay more to stay in the Times Square zone vs. the other zones OR is the goal the least expensive property in any of the zones you have listed as acceptable?

Let us know the information above and we'll take it from there.

Maybe this answer will confuse things, but hopefully not.

Generally the goal would be to stay at the least expensive 3* or better and the least expensive property in any of the zones, but at the same time we would be willing to pay a little bit more for a higher rated hotel and/or to stay in the Times Square zone.

Does that make sense?

Here are my thoughts on ballpark figured of what it will take for a successful bid based upon current prices for your dates:

4* Times Square: $200-$220

3.5* Times Square: $180-$200

3* Times Square: $170-$190

For all the zones you're considering:

4* $180-$200

3.5* $180-$200

3* $150-$170

Based upon the above, would you first want to try for a hotel only in Times Square (and if so at what star rating), try for a hotel 4* (or 3.5*) hotel in any of your acceptable zones, OR try for the least expensive 3* in any of these zones?

Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there.

Based on what you've provided here is what our preferences would be:

4* Times Square: $200-$220

4* $180-$200 (other zones)

3.5* $180-$200 (other zones)

3* Times Square: $170-$190

3* $150-$170 (other zones)

So to confirm, you want to first try for a 3.5* in the Times Square zone up to $200/nite, if that is rejected then try for a 4* up to $220/nite?

If this is correct, when bidding 3.5* in NYC you have ONE re-bid zone. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

I'd start with the following:

Select 3.5* Times Square...

Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $185

If the above is rejected wait 24 hours and re-try, once again starting with this PRICELINE link (and not the link in any emails priceline may send informing you that you're eligible to bid again):

Select 3.5* Times Square...

Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $195

If not successful we'll revise to try again as well as trying for a 4* hotel.

Any questions feel free to ask.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Sorry for the delay in replying.

After speaking with the people going on the trip we bid in the Midtown West area instead.

After a few failed attempts we ended up getting a 3.5* for $170/night.  The hotel we got was the Club Quarter Midtown hotel.

Thanks for all your help!
