Hello,

This is my first time to use better bidding

We are planning to go to NYC from 1 Dec to 4th Dec for the first time and would appreciate some assistance in booking our hotel room.

Our first preference is to stay in the following area in the NYC and looking to spend $160 max/night and a min of 3.5 star rating

MTE
MTW
Empire State
MSG
Times Square

CPS

Would you think this is a reasoable to acheive in Priceline or Hotwire?

Alternatively, we have also thought staying in Hoboken NJ too as it is very accessible to the NYC. However, we have realised there is a sharp increase in the Priceline Express Deal from late Nov to early Dec (i.e $121 on 29 Nov and $249 on 1Dec, and even higer $349 on 3 Dec), are there any special events in that area? If we are staying in Hoboken, we planned to spend the same amount $160/night max for a 3.5* hotel too.

Should I wait a till mid Nov to anticipate a price drop during that period? Can I please have some suggestions?

(Unfortuntely we cannot change to days flying to NY as our flights are non refundable)

Thanks in advance

Unfortunately, this is really in the middle of the prime period of holiday shopping and festivities and is a traditionally expensive/very expensive time frame. For a 3.5*+, my guess is that you're looking for at least close to $200. Hoboken/Jersey City are also expensive during this period.

Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

The issue with the Book It deal is that you don't know how 'true' the star rating is... is the 3.5* offered similarly rated on PRICELINE and/or HOTWIRE; or would each of these services more likely rate the same property at 3 stars? (or less??) Also, i don't see any description for what they designate as 'midtown' so this hotel could potentially be in a wide geographic area.

I think you're likely looking at $200-$220/nite for a 3.5* hotel... perhaps $180-$200 for a 3* property.

I will also add that what looks like the Wyndham New Yorker is available on PRICELINE EXPRESS for $222/nite, should you be interested in this 4* property for not much more than we suspect you're likely looking at for a 3.5* or lesser rated hotel.

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. (or our Book It link should you decide to take a chance with that one)

Let us know what you decide or how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly.

I saw that 4* deal but it a little bit stretching our budget and I agree that booking via bookit.com seems a bit risky as the area is quite wide too

Actually I saw another 2 Express Deal on Priceline

1. 3* at Empire State Building Area for $154 /night

2. 3* at Lower East Area for $181/night

As this is my first time to NYC and I am not sure which is a good area stay for 3 days, can I please have some suggestion? Which hotel do you think these deal referring to?

Thanks heaps!

For the deal in Empire State Building, the amenities is Pet Allowed

For the deal in Lower East side, the amenities are free internet, business centre, fitness centre and free breakfast.

Thanks heaps.

Best guess for the ESB property would be the Nh Jolly Hotel Madison Towers... for the LES property my guess would be the Best Western Bowery Hanbee Hotel (with a smaller chance of the Blue Moon Hotel as a possibility).
