v281 Posted October 9, 2014 Report Posted October 9, 2014 Hi y'all :-) Bidding skills quite rusty as I haven't bid for a couple of years (had even forgotten my old username and had to sign up again!). Will be visiting NYC with my teenage son this weekend for a few days. We're planning on doing the tourist thing. Arriving Saturday night and flying out late Tuesday afternoon.I believe my preference would be for the Times Square area, but not locked into that and would like to minimize walking/taxi time to tourist attractions while minimizing accommodation costs. Minimum acceptable quality is 3* (would consider dropping to 2.5* if rates are totally outrageous, but would prefer 3* +. Don't have a fixed budget - just want to pay the least I can get away with :-) Your thoughts? Any assistance greatly appreciated. Advance thanks,v281
thereuare Posted October 9, 2014 Report Posted October 9, 2014 To get started... For something that is generally considered to be centrally located you're likely looking at $175-$200/nite for a 3* or better property... we will of course start lower, but would $200/nite be acceptable amount to use for a maximum bid this trip? v281 Posted October 9, 2014 Author Report Posted October 9, 2014 Yes, absolutely. When you say $200, is that $200 all-in or $200+ tx and fees? Just wondering, 'cause I have no idea how high taxes and fees can be expcted to be in NYC. Would ideally wind up inside $250 all in. Cheers,v281
v281 Posted October 9, 2014 Author Report Posted October 9, 2014 Sorry it took so long to reply to your question. Am presently overseas and looking at about a 5hr time difference. Getting late over here, but was hoping to be able to get the hotel accommodations squared away (starting to get concerned that I'm running out of time). Please advise at your earliest possible convenience. Advance thanks for your suggestions and advice. Cheers, v281
v281 Posted October 10, 2014 Author Report Posted October 10, 2014 Will bid what is needed, don't have a dollar limit - need assistance with bidding for 3* (or higher) in close proximity to NYC tourist attractions (see more info in opening post).Given the limited time until departure I need to make this work within 24 hrs. Hoping for fast response. Advance thanks,v281
thereuare Posted October 10, 2014 Report Posted October 10, 2014 If Times Square is the only zone you're willing to accept you don't have much time or options so i would: Use this link to access PRICELINE and... Bid 3* Times Square for $200 If that is rejected there is this 3* Times Square hotel for $222/nite (Restaurant, Free Internet, Business Center, Fitness Center)... confirm the dates on the landing page. My guess for this property would be the Best Western Plus President Hotel At Times Square. If you're willing to accept more zones that may be near, but are different than Times Square, let us know as you will then have more options when bidding on PRICELINE. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Let us know what you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help. v281 Posted October 10, 2014 Author Report Posted October 10, 2014 Thanks for your help and suggestions. I am by no means locked into Times Square, just mentioned that as a first choice, am certainly open to exploring other options (would still like to minimize distance to tourist site, however, as we're only there for 2.5 days :-) ). Cheers,v281 P.S: Does $222/nite incl. tx or no?
thereuare Posted October 10, 2014 Report Posted October 10, 2014 P.S: Does $222/nite incl. tx or no?If you clicked the link provided to that offer you'll see that is the room rate per nite before taxes/fees. All posts on the board are in terms of room rate per nite so that there is consistency in the prices quoted and since (in bidding strategies) it is the amount of the bid and therefore users don't need to do 'reverse math' to determine how much the bid should be placed. I am by no means locked into Times Square...Then you will need to let us know which other zone(s), by PRICELINE name, are acceptable. v281 Posted October 10, 2014 Author Report Posted October 10, 2014 Open to any of the central zones (been so long since I´ve been there I can´t remember what areas would be better).Looked at map and believe these would al work: 1) Times Square2) Midtown West 3) Midtown East4) Central Park South Cheers,v281
v281 Posted October 10, 2014 Author Report Posted October 10, 2014 Never mind. Wound up booking through Hotwire after $222 and $228 bids were rejected on Priceline (added Midtown East for re-bid)- got Paramount Hotel Times Square for $238+tx (crappy rep on TripAdvisor, but what are you going to do :-( )
