bob_loblaw1 Posted October 8, 2014 Report Posted October 8, 2014 We are looking for bidding help on a hotel in NYC.We are not sure of which areas to bid on in Manhattan or Brooklyn, but we would like to stay in an area where the majority of hotels are close to subway stops. The dates are from Nov 2 - 6, 2014.We are hoping for a 4 star hotel, but would accept a 3 star if we have a decent idea which hotel it is.Our budget is up to $180/night not including taxes and fees. Thanks for your help, and if there are any questions please do not hesitate to ask.Richard
thereuare Posted October 9, 2014 Report Posted October 9, 2014 If you're not aware, note that the NYC Marathon is Nov 2 and there is usually a strong increase in demand for the days leading up to, and including, this nite (nobody want to get on a plane after running 26.2 miles) The issue with Brooklyn is that the zone is geographically quite large and therefore you could be quite a distance from Manhattan. How would you rank the most important criteria to you for this stay... location, star rating, or budget? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. bob_loblaw1 Posted October 9, 2014 Author Report Posted October 9, 2014 Thanks for the tip about the Marathon. We actually found this out right after we booked our flights. In terms of our ranking, we would go: 1. Budget (we don't mind paying extra for something nice, but we would rather spend our cash on activities)2. Location (we are hoping to be no more then 10 min from a subway stop and no more the 30 min from the heart of Manhattan.3. Star Rating. This is actually the least important as we rarely take advantage of the amenities. It is way more important that the rooms are clean. Again, thanks for the help on this one. R.
thereuare Posted October 9, 2014 Report Posted October 9, 2014 A few options to being... PRICELINE EXPRESS has a 3* hotel in the Lower East Side for $170/nite with: Fitness Center Free Internet Free Breakfast Business Center ... a guess for this property would be a new amenity set for the Best Western Bowery Hanbee Hotel which i believe would meet all your requirements above (within 10 minute walk of a subway and within 30 minutes of Times Square) There is also a 3* hotel (on PRICELINE EXPRESS) for $174/nite in the MTW zone, only showing a Fitness amenity. Generally speaking this zone would be a bit more centrally located, and although it's difficult to have too much confidence with only one amenity showing, the Ameritania Hotel has previously been seen with just a solo Fitness amenity so that would be my best guess here. (although i think here you have a slightly increased chance of the room only having one double bed) Both of the properties above have a minimum 8.0+ user review rating so they should at least meet a minimum of being clean and an overall good experience. Let us know your thoughts on the above and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. bob_loblaw1 Posted October 9, 2014 Author Report Posted October 9, 2014 Those are very good options, we are thinking very hard about the MTW 3*. Can you give any advice on a bidding strategy that would have a decent chance of success. We do like the risk/reward of naming your own price. So far we tried a few low ball bids on Manhattan areas at 3* up to $150 with no luck. Suggestions?
thereuare Posted October 9, 2014 Report Posted October 9, 2014 Which zones have you already bid at the 3* level up to $150? What are all zones that are acceptable? What should we use as your maximum bid in any suggested strategy? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. bob_loblaw1 Posted October 9, 2014 Author Report Posted October 9, 2014 We used a bit of random selection of the following (bidding starting at $120 and going to $150):Central Park SouthChelsea AreaDowntown - Financial DistrictEmpire State BuildingHell's KitchenLower East SideMadison Square GardenMidtown EastMidtown WestSoHo - TribecaTimes SquareUnion SquareUpper East SideUpper West Side All of the above are acceptable but in order of preference we would like: 2 Central Park South12 Midtown West11 Midtown East16 Times Square - Theatre District14 Queensborough Bridge6 Empire State Building Area18 Upper East Side19 Upper West Side7 Hell's Kitchen10 Madison Square Garden - Convention Area17 Union Square - East Village15 SoHo - Tribeca5 Downtown - Financial District3 Chelsea Area9 Lower East Side Two areas which we think are risky are:1 Brooklyn8 Long Island City We would be interested, but only if the locations are close to the Brooklyn, Williamsburg or Queensborough Bridges. Knowing we can get a 3* for 174 in MTW, I think the maximum bid should be 180 (not incl. taxes/fees). Thanks,R.
