drcyril75 Posted October 8, 2014 Author Report Posted October 8, 2014 10/10 to 10/12, First time to Chicago, looked at downtown hotels but expensive, thinking of staying in ORD area and travel to downtown. Any recommendations appreciated!
AaronJB Posted October 8, 2014 Report Posted October 8, 2014 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)The problem with these dates is the Marathon, which happens on the 12th and results in people coming in on the day before. If you are flying into ORD, I would definitely stay in ORD as it really becomes too difficult to go stay in another outlying area, as if you aren't driving, the way that Chicago's transit is set up, you pretty much have to go downtown and then out. If you repeat your search using our Bidding.Helper.com tool... use the HOTWIRE EASY VIEW tab and then click the GREEN BUTTON next to this listing, do you see more amenities then what you have listed above? If you see: Shuttle, Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Golf, Blind Accessible, Deaf Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Wheelchair Accessible, Handicapped Parking, Roll-in Shower That would be a possible match for the Hyatt ORD. All that said: If you are driving, I'd rather suggest the North burbs. I'm seeing a 3.5* in the Northbrook-Glenview area w/Suite, Restaurant, Pool, Indoor Pool, Fitness, Complimentary Breakfast, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Kitchenette, Laundry, Golf, Free Parking, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Handicapped Parking for $72 (you may see a slightly different price.) I'd guess that this is a slightly different amenity set for the Embassy Suites Deerfield than what has been previously reported to the board. A Metra station is right down the street about 1-1.5mi. The North burbs are very nice with a lot of restaurant and shopping options. The Metra trains are also a nicer trip into the city than the CTA trains. Let me know if you have any questions before booking (about hotels or Chicago.) Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
drcyril75 Posted October 9, 2014 Author Report Posted October 9, 2014 Thank you for the info. I am planning to drive to Chicago. This is my first time trip and would like to take my family (with one kid) to visit main attractions in Chicago and I think I should take them to downtown region first. I looked at hotels near downtown especially river north region and found really expensive. The option you gave me was helpful, but isnt it too far from downtown? I am thinking of driving to downtown and park near Millenium park for cheaper price (I was told around $16/day).Any more information will be greatly appreciated. I am ready to pay around $100-125 for my stay for the best option I can get.
drcyril75 Posted October 9, 2014 Author Report Posted October 9, 2014 I did not find the one you suggested in your post Northbrook glen view area for $72. In this area for 3.5* I found these amenities - Free Parking, Indoor pool(s), Fitness Center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business Center, Internet access, Golf Nearby, Tennis Nearby, Accessible for the blind, Accessible for the deaf, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Handicapped parking, Roll-in shower I am not sure whether I am searching correctly!. I haven't found an option than says w/suite, Kitchenette, Complimentary breakfast and hi-speed internet (just says Internet access).
AaronJB Posted October 9, 2014 Report Posted October 9, 2014 It is about a 35-45 minute train ride from the Northbrook area to downtown Chicago. On the Metra train, there are conductors, bathrooms and two levels. It's a much more comfortable ride than the CTA train and given that you can flip the seats to face each other, it's actually a really nice place to talk about and plan your day downtown. The difference is that the CTA train does go into downtown, whereas the Metra trains end at one of two large stations - Ogilvie or Union, both of which are next to one another. It's about a 50-60 minute trip from ORD to downtown on the CTA. The issue with Chicago is that once you leave the downtown core, it's a while before you really get to areas that are hotel-dense. The Metra trains are a great way to get downtown and I really wouldn't recommend driving, but if you do, the Millennium Park lots are going to be more around $20-25 w/city tax additional. There are also some family-friendly sites near Northbrook, including the Chicago Botanic Garden (chicagobotanic.org), which is huge and will likely be getting towards prime time in terms of Fall colors. There's also the Kohl's Children's Museum (http://www.kohlchildrensmuseum.org/.) Unfortunately, downtown is going to be likely at least $175-200 for these dates. Let me know if you have any questions before booking. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
drcyril75 Posted October 9, 2014 Author Report Posted October 9, 2014 Thanks again for the info. I did not find the one you suggested in your post Northbrook glen view area for $72. AaronJB Posted October 9, 2014 Report Posted October 9, 2014 Unfortunately, I'm not seeing it now, either. I am seeing a 3.5* in Northbrook-Glenview for $56 w/Restaurant, Pool, Indoor Pool, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Golf, Tennis, Free Parking, Blind Accessible, Deaf Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Handicapped Parking, Roll-in Shower. This would be a possible match for the Hyatt Deerfield, which is also a short distance from a Metra station and right next to the expressway if you do decide to drive. Let me know if you have any questions before booking. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
drcyril75 Posted October 9, 2014 Author Report Posted October 9, 2014 Thanks again AaronJB. In Northbrook-Glenview region in HOTWIRE, do you recommend 4* or 3.5* hotels?
AaronJB Posted October 9, 2014 Report Posted October 9, 2014 I've stayed at a number of the hotels in the area and the ones I've tried have been quite nice. There are not that many 4*'s, but I do think some of the 3.5*'s - such as the Hyatt mentioned above - are certainly quite nice, especially for the kind of rates they are sometimes seen at. The Hyatt for $55 for quad occupancy is - I think - a great value. When I search for 2 adults/2 children for these dates, I'm seeing a 3.5* for $55 w/Free ParkingIndoor pool(s)Fitness CenterPool(s)Restaurant(s)Business CenterInternet accessGolf NearbyTennis NearbyAccessible for the blindAccessible for the deafAccessible path of travelIn-room accessibilityAccessible bathroomHandicapped parkingRoll-in showerThis would be a possible match for the Hyatt. If you are looking primarily for a nice place to sleep as you're going to be out for much of the day, I think that would be a great choice and a great value. That property was also renovated not that long ago. Not really seeing much else in the Northbrook area - no 4*'s are showing for these dates. You could also try bidding and likely get something in the Deerfield zone at the 3.5* level for a bit lower, but you would risk getting only one bed. If you did bid, I would only bid for the 3.5* level in the Deerfield zone. Let us know if this is of interest.
