Travelling Posted December 10, 2005 Report Posted December 10, 2005 I am thinking about bidding for a hotel for the above two nights in Las Vegas. I don't think these mid-week dates are expensive so I am hoping to get a good deal. The requirement is a mid-range (or better) hotel somewhere on or near the Strip. To test the water, I bid $95 for a 5* on the Strip (ie the Venetian!) (knowing this was below the magic $99 lowest accepted bid) and was counter-offered $133 and Hotwire has this for $136.Before I try $99 or above, do you think there is much chance of picking up a better deal? I'd be happy with somewhere like Flamingo, Bally's, Luxor (have stayed in all these) or similar if I can get a better price than on Priceline.
thereuare Posted December 10, 2005 Report Posted December 10, 2005 While you can certainly get one of those other (3*-3.5*) hotels cheaper than you're likely to get a 5*, i think that the Venetian on Priceline is one of the best values in the area (when it can be had for $120/nite or less)Let us know what you decide to do or if we can be of further help. Travelling Posted December 11, 2005 Author Report Posted December 11, 2005 Thanks for your reply.I thought I'd try and bid 5* Strip for those two nights. Using the link to PRICELINE from www.SavingsBarn.com, and starting at $99, I bid up to $105 with no luck.An early counter-offer of $133 (again), Hotwire now at $134 and the Venetian site posting a rate of $169 makes me think it's not worth going much higher right now.Do you think this is the best course of action? If so, I need to look into getting a cancellable back-up. I guess my main options here are to look at the hotel websites and also see if Easy Click Travel has anything better?
thereuare Posted December 11, 2005 Report Posted December 11, 2005 I would book a cancellable back-up just to make sure rates don't go up on you while you continue to try Priceline... it is Valentine's Day and they may be holding back extremely discounted inventory. I have also looked and there have been quite a few instances when the Venetian required more than their usual $99/bid... even when rates were as low as they currntly are for these dates. Travelling Posted December 30, 2005 Author Report Posted December 30, 2005 UpdateI have tried bidding on Priceline (5*/Strip) for these dates (using the link from www.SavingsBarn.com) up to about $115 with no success.Recently, it is looking like this is getting further out of reach : the Venetian price has gone up to $199, Hotwire has increased to around $200 and the odd counter-offer I have got has been about $180). I have made a cancellable back-up at the MGM for $59 per night which I think is going to be hard to beat.[separately (although I haven't posted details of this), I have a one-night stay for Sunday 2/26 - rates generally seem a bit higher for this date. I have a cancellable back-up at the Aladdin for $59 which may well be hard to beat too].With these back-up prices, I probably don't want to go much higher than $99 for the Venetian but will keep trying nearer the time.
