kriedel Posted September 26, 2014 Report Posted September 26, 2014 Hello, I'm looking for a hotel room Dec 16- Dec 18 in Chicago in the Downtown/Millennium Park, Magnificent Mile/River North area, or the Theater District. Could you help me to identify the following: 1) 4.5 Star Hotel Downtown/Millennium Park $88 Pet friendly, Smoke Free Rooms, Fitness Center, Restaurant(s), Business Center, Internet access, Accessible for the blind, Accessible for the deaf, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Handicapped parking, Roll-in shower 2) 4.5 Star Hotel Magnificent Mile/River North $109 Free Internet, Pet friendly, Boutique Hotel, Fitness Center, Restaurant(s), Business Center, Internet access, Spa Services, Accessible for the blind, Accessible for the deaf, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Handicapped parking, Roll-in shower I'm thinking this might be the James? 3) 4 Star Hotel Chicago Loop/Theater District $97 Free Internet, Pet friendly, Boutique Hotel, Smoke Free Rooms, Fitness Center, Restaurant(s), Business Center, Internet access, Spa Services, Accessible for the blind, Accessible for the deaf, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Handicapped parking, Roll-in shower I'm thinking this might be the Wyndham? 4) 4.5 Star Chicago Loop/Theater District $124 Pet friendly, Boutique Hotel, Fitness Center, Restaurant(s), Business Center, Self service laundry, Internet access, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom Also, what are your thoughts on the neighborhoods? I was originally looking at the Chicago Loop/Theater District because it seemed the most convenient to both Midway and O'Hare (flight-in is through O'Hare and flight out is through Midway). However, am I correct in saying there's more to do (restaurants, bars, etc) in River North? Thanks in advance!
thereuare Posted September 26, 2014 Report Posted September 26, 2014 Welcome to BetterBidding! If you haven't yet, please start by reading your messages. The Loop zone is certainly do-able but can get a bit quiet at nite... the River North area has more bars, restaurants, nightlife, etc. I'm sure AaronJB will comment accordingly once he sees this thread as he is local to the area and he will be able to advise you of the best options for this stay (whether listed above or one of the other offers on HOTWIRE or PRICELINE EXPRESS). In the meatntime, please post a little more details about your stay so that we will be in a better position to understand your needs for this trip and advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. AaronJB Posted September 26, 2014 Report Posted September 26, 2014 The West portion of the Loop area is more office-heavy and at night, the area can be quiet/very quiet (at times, almost oddly so, given that it's a large city.) The South end of the Loop is - also, especially in December, when it may be cold - inconvenient. I don't think it's a significant extra effort to get from one of the Blue Line stations to a hotel North of the river if you are coming in via ORD or MDW. I'm seeing a 4.5* Downtown-Millennium Park-GP w/Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Blind Accessible, Deaf Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Handicapped Parking, Roll-in Shower, Pet Friendly. This listing has not yet been ID'd/reported to the board. Possibly an upgraded Blackstone Renaissance? 4.5* Mag Mile-RN - Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Spa, Blind Accessible, Deaf Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Handicapped Parking, Roll-in Shower, Pet Friendly. Not yet ID'd/reported to the board, but I'd guess a slightly different amenity set for the James. 4* Loop. Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Spa, Blind Accessible, Deaf Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Handicapped Parking, Roll-in Shower, Pet Friendly. This would be a possible match for the Wyndham. Good, central location right by Michigan Ave bridge. 4.5* Loop. Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Laundry, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Pet Friendly. I'd guess the Monaco may have been upgraded to 4.5*, but that would be just a guess and this may be something else. -------------------------------- I'm also seeing a 4.5* in the Mag Mile N-Water Tower area w/Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Pet Friendly for $103, which would likely be the Thompson. That was the Sutton Place and was renovated for a significant time period last year before re-opening. That's in the very nice Gold Coast area, which has a lot of shopping as well as some great restaurants and nightlife. There is a subway station an easy walk NE. ------------------- The 4* Loop (Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Spa, Blind Accessible, Deaf Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Handicapped Parking, Roll-in Shower, Pet Friendly) that is potentially the Wyndham (which has been seen with that amenity set previously) would be a great option. If the 4.5* boutique in the River North area is the James, that would be a very nice option and I do like the 4.5* in the Mag Mile N-Water Tower area that is a potential match for the Thompson. Let us know if you have any questions before booking. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
kriedel Posted September 27, 2014 Author Report Posted September 27, 2014 Thanks so much for your help and advice. After much debating between the Gold Coast and River North areas, I finally decided to book the 4.5 start hotel in Magnificent Mile/River North for $108. It ended up being the James as you predicted: 4.5 Star Hotel Magnificent Mile/River North $108 ---JAMESFree Internet, Pet friendly, Boutique Hotel, Fitness Center, Restaurant(s), Business Center, Internet access, Spa Services, Accessible for the blind, Accessible for the deaf, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Handicapped parking, Roll-in shower Cheers!
AaronJB Posted September 27, 2014 Report Posted September 27, 2014 Congrats on your success. :) Fantastic deal for this well-located property and glad you are pleased with the win. I'll highly suggest a visit to Eataly, which is about a block away. While I don't really recommend a full meal there, it's great fun to browse around the markets and grab a bite to eat. Please let me know if you have any questions at all about the city (need recommendations/directions) Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches. Enjoy your stay.
