jimaleg
As far as the winning bids it appears The Hilton Midtown is MTW but on the Priceline list view it is listed as MTE. Anyone with an opinion as to where it is classified (MTW or MTE?)The reason I ask is I see a MTW express deal has the following amenities: Pets, Business Center and Restaurant and is listed in MTW and a prior post suggested this was the Hilton Midtown. Does anyone have an opinion as to whether this express is Hilton Midtown? Finally, does anyone have a formula for determining your bid when a hotel is on Express. For example, this MTW Express deal is 193 for my date (a Saturday in Oct) whereas someone won the same weekend for 170. I've bid up to 161 and no luck. The Hilton website says $299 so I started at 1/2 (150) plus 1 and worked my way up in $5 increments (151 156 now 161) but no luck. Any advice is appreciated. I really want to get a Hilton since I'm gold. My backup is the Waldorf for 209 plus 32K HHonors points. Link to comment
AaronJB
Please provide a follow-up for your prior Cleveland Hotwire thread (post what you decided for that stay within that thread, then reply to this thread and we would be happy to take a look at the above post.) Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches. Link to comment
jimaleg
I provided a follow up and I will use your link to make my bid today if you can get me an answer. I really want to stay in Hilton Mid Town and I'm pretty sure it's the express deal but you have better insight than I! Link to comment
jimaleg
the other interesting thing is it had a different rating (7+) on express versus Priceline's "list" (8.1). Is this a tell? Link to comment
thereuare
I think you're confusing two different Hilton properties: 4* MTE Hilton Manhattan East 4* MTW New York Hilton Midtown As far as the PRICELINE EXPRESS offer for your October stay, what is the actual nite(s) you need? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. jimaleg
Well the PRICELINE offer says the following: New York Hilton Midtown 8.1 out of 10 from 461 guest reviews New York, NY (Midtown East) Book Now, Save More. Why would PL list call it NY Hilton MIDTOWN if they just meant Hilton NY....As you probably know, the PL list indicates the actual properties. PL express shows a 4 star in MTW with the aforementioned 3 amenities. Still think I'm confusing properties? Link to comment

jimaleg
The express deal is now gone after all the helpful advice I got on what I thought was a simple question (i.e. percentage to bid below the express price on NYP). Prior to the offer disappearing I bid 3 more bids up to 170 in MTW for 10/4/14 and the bids were not accepted for a 4*. I'll keep my Waldorf deal unless the Marriot Marque is worth trying for 10/4/14 based on a similar post. I don't see the express deal for 10/4/14 for the MM. Link to comment
thereuare
There is no set percentage discount of PRICELINE EXPRESS to use when bidding as there are a lot of variables involved and we needed all of the information requested in order properly answer your question. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Enjoy your upcoming stay. jimaleg
understood there's no set percentage but is it safe to assume that NYP is going to be lower than what you think is the same express hotel for a given star and location? Here was an instance where I bid up to within 15% of Express Price but lost out. That's why I wanted to make sure the description of the Hilton Midtown was correct. I guess it doesn't matter since I ended up going with what I guessed the hotel was. Link to comment
AaronJB
Name your own price is generally slightly-to-mildly cheaper than PRICELINE EXPRESS, but % discount is going to vary depending on the dates, traffic and other factors. Hot.wire is sometimes cheaper than PRICELINE EXPRESS. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches. Link to comment
jimaleg
I got it too!!!!! I got the 4th for 161 or 201.69 total. I bid through the PRICELINE link. Can you put it on the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins... Link to comment
AaronJB
Congrats on your success. :) Good deal for this property and hope you are looking forward to your stay. jimaleg
Marriot Marquee versus Hilton Midtown?Given their proximity to each other...other than a possible view of Times Square does anyone have a preference between these 2 hotels? I tried for the Hilton but failed but then got the Marquee on the very first bid. I'm gold with both Hilton and Marriot but Marriot will not put their rewards number in a prepaid (not just priceline but any travel related website). I realize you never get points for a PL stay but Hilton will recognize your status even if you're on a PL NYP prepaid. Does anyone have any experience with being an elite with Marriot but not getting offered the benefits of an Elite when doing NYP ? I'm really disappointed if that is the case...not looking for reward points only a "possible" upgrade!Marriot not letting me use my gold status for possible upgrade....anyone with similar experiences? joninvb
Can't really offer much help here, other than to say that slipping the front desk worker a $20 as you check in might get you an upgrade. Present your license, cc, the 20 folded up between the 2 and say: "I am a Marriot Gold Member, would it be possible to get a complimentary upgrade?". Worst comes to worst, they say no! AaronJB
PRICELINE and HOTWIRE reservations aren't eligible for rewards programs. That said, people have had success at some hotels, but it may vary from hotel-to-hotel within the chain and it may come down to who you talk to. I wouldn't expect rewards benefits from a discounted reservation - I'd say go in, ask at check in and worst case they say no. Given NYC's small rooms and problems with even getting two beds on a PRICELINE reservation, I think you're likely going to run into resistance about upgrades/rewards benefits at any chain. Enjoy your stay. Link to comment
jimaleg
Hilton (doubletree) and Hyatt honored my elite status for PL NYP rooms in Wilmington and Savanna (both 4* Waterview properties). I was able to get my HH or Hyatt number into the reservation. I think this is a strictly a Marriot prohibition since I called Marriot rewards and WW reservations and they both said there's no place to put a rewards number on a prepaid so all they can do is make a note on the reservation and hope night audit or morning assignments see it and take mercy on you. I'm not even talking reward points here...strictly amentities. I have to admit I am surprised at Marriot's treatment of elites that bid on PL. While I understand that PL NYP are hugely discounted rooms but to get elite status you need X number of non-PL stays. So why penalize a frequent stayer just because one or more times they happened to get a discounted room? IMHO that's different that shafting a PL bidder to a lousy room since there's no customer loyalty involved in the latter. Link to comment
Beefdrippings
Pardon me if I'm out of place for responding. There's many factors involved. One being length of stay.I just booked a PRICELINE EXPRESS deal for an 8 nightstay.I had no luck with NYOP,even going as far as breaking my trip into three segments and bidding siginificantly higher than the express deal I purchased. So for me the express deal was cheaper, and gave me piece of mind knowing I don't have to go through the bidding process more than once for one visit. Link to comment
jimaleg
No pardon necessary.....I guess your experience goes to show you there's no ryme or reason with Express relative to NYP. I just assumed that NYP would be less tha PRICELINE EXPRESS for a given stay.....doesn't make sense that express could ever be less assuming the same dates, location and starts...but what do I know! jimaleg
To finish the Marquee and Marriot reward story...They did end up giving me a high floor room with a gorgous view...I had 2 queens so I think it might have been a deluxe room. I had to call the Marriott early that morning and remind the person that assigns rooms that I was gold. Link to comment
AlexBeezer
I'm a gold Marriott member and the hotel did put my reward number on my Priceline bought reservation (I can see my reservation on my app). They also provided me with M lounge access for my stay...so I would say, always go ahead and ask for a few perks if you are an elite member of any hotel group. Link to comment
jimaleg
IHG put my IHG gold elite member number on the reservation but it didn't show up as a reservation (or points which I didn't expect). They did provide me an upgraded room and early & late check in/out. Link to comment
