geozucco Posted September 9, 2014 Report Posted September 9, 2014 I am planning to visit NYC during October 7 through 14, 2014. I'm looking for a 4 star hotel in any of the areas between 100th Street and 20th Streets. For the last few days (and maybe longer) Priceline has listed a 4 star Express deal for my dates at $235 in the Empire State area. Only amenity listed is "Pets allowed". I checked the BetterBidding list of known Priceline Express Deal hotels for that area, and the only one listed with that single "pets allowed" amenity is the 3 star Jolly Hotel Madison Towers. I checked out some online reviews for that hotel (Yelp, etc) and the place certainly doesn't sound like a 4 star kind of place - actually, closer to 2 stars by the sound of some of the reviews. Any idea what hotel this 4 star / Empire State Express deal might be?
yellowdog Posted September 9, 2014 Report Posted September 9, 2014 Welcome to BetterBidding! Best guess would be St. Giles - The Court. Keep us updated on your progress and let us know what you ultimately decide or if we can be of further help. Please use the PRICELINE and hot.wire links on the board to begin your purchases and searches. Yellowdog.
geozucco Posted September 9, 2014 Author Report Posted September 9, 2014 Thanks for the quick reply. After comparing your guess with other possibilities, I am almost sure you are correct about it being St Giles - The Court. I have a Priceline coupon I could apply to the final price of this Express Deal to get an additional 10% off, so it's very tempting. In any case, if I decide to go for it, I will definitely book it through your Priceline link and post the result here.
thereuare Posted September 9, 2014 Report Posted September 9, 2014 Please remember to follow-up your threads with your wins/decisions as you make them (even if you don't ultimately use PRICELINE / HOTWIRE, cancel the trip, book direct, etc) as this help keep the board better organized and more useful for everyone... as well as being a courtesy to anyone who took the time to help with your travel plans. I'm quite familiar with NYC if you have any questions that can help in your making your decision. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. geozucco Posted September 13, 2014 Author Report Posted September 13, 2014 Here is what I finally decided to do. A couple days after I made my initial posting here asking about the 4 star Empire State area hotel for $235 / night, that particular deal disappeared from the Priceline Express Deal list - at least for my required dates. Since then I have been searching the Priceline Express and Hotwire deals on a daily basis, and tonight I found one that I am very happy with. Hotwire: October 7 through 14. Midtown east Area Four Stars @ $204 / night Amenities: Indoor pool(s) Restaurant(s) Internet Access Fitness center Business center Tennis Nearby Pools Self service Laundry The hotel turned out to be what I expected, The One UN. I know this property is one that some wish to avoid (since it is a bit off the beaten track) but I am a hearty walker, so for that rate I'm happy to get it. Total Hotwire cost for the seven nights comes to $1,798.
thereuare Posted September 13, 2014 Report Posted September 13, 2014 Congratulations on your success! Nice to see you received the hotel you were hoping for and that it works well for your needs this trip. You're also near my often recommended Ess-A-Bagel (Third Ave at 51st St) which has one of the best bagels in the city, makes for a nice, and relatively inexpensive, breakfast among local NYers. Thank you for sharing your win with the board. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Enjoy your stay.
