Charlie44 Posted August 29, 2014 Report Posted August 29, 2014 Dates: Sept 5 - 7, 2014 Budget: $100 per night (can go a bit higher with tax) Hotel Star Level Preference: 4 or 5 star Area Preference: Copenhagen Can you please help with a bidding strategy?Thank you very much.
thereuare Posted August 30, 2014 Report Posted August 30, 2014 At current rates it doesn't appear that $100 will likely be enough for these dates, but if you want to give it a shot you can try the following: When bidding in Copenhagen at the 5* level you have ONE re-bid zones... NO re-bid zones at the 4* level. Select 5* Copenhagen... Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $100 If the above is rejected close the browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE.... Select 4* Copenhagen... Bid $100 Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Charlie44 Posted August 30, 2014 Author Report Posted August 30, 2014 I proceeded as advised and no luck. Express deal for a 5* after the bid is coming out at $240. Hotwire has a 5* near Kastrup Airport for $242. Hotwire has the following 4* Hotels: City Center / Tivoli $153Frederiksberg $153Vesterbro $143 In your view, how high would I need to go on priceline to get a 4*?I will try a new strategy tomorrow.
thereuare Posted August 30, 2014 Report Posted August 30, 2014 Keep in mind that HOTWIRE and PRICELINE may rate the same hotels different as each uses their own criteria to assign star ratings to hotels (often they are the same, but when there is a different, HOTWIRE can assign a slightly higher rating) Given the HOTWIRE prices above, would you be willing to bid up to $140 for a 4* on PRICELINE? Using MAPS and HOTELS.com do you have any viable options in the area at $140 or less? (what is the best rate you're able to find at an acceptable hotel?) Charlie44 Posted August 31, 2014 Author Report Posted August 31, 2014 I found a rate at the Scandic Sydhaven in Vesterbro (4*) for $135 per night. $140 per night seems too high a bid for something on PRICELINE / HOTWIRE if this rate is out there. Plus, it's above my price range. What would your suggested bidding strategy be for today if I bid $110 max?
AaronJB Posted August 31, 2014 Report Posted August 31, 2014 I'd guess $115-130 at the 4* level. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 I'm currently seeing the Scandic Sydhaven priced at $277/nite on Hotels.com. Given your previous rejections and that you're only willing to go up another $10/nite at this time, i would retry: Select 5* Copenhagen... Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $110 If the above is rejected close the browser and use this link to re-access PRICE.LINE.... Select 4* Copenhagen... Bid $110 Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Charlie44 Posted September 2, 2014 Author Report Posted September 2, 2014 No luck yesterday. Thank you for the advice. Considering that even a $153 hotel on hotwire becomes almost $200 after tax, I may end up renting an apartment in the end because the options are much better for that amount of money. I will keep bidding at $110 max per day in the meantime on PRICELINE and hope for the best. I will keep you posted if the bid is successful.
yellowdog Posted September 3, 2014 Report Posted September 3, 2014 Yes, taxes are high for Copenhagen. And so are the rates for your dates. It would be a good idea to book a cancelable back-up and keep bidding with crossed thumbs. Keep us updated on your progress and let us know what you ultimately decide or if we can be of further help. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your purchases and searches. Yellowdog. PS. Please check for and use the links in our Support Page whenever possible for your non-opaque purchases, as we have links there to most of the major hotel chains and online booking agencies.
Charlie44 Posted September 15, 2014 Author Report Posted September 15, 2014 We ended up staying with a friend for this trip since we couldn't find something that we wanted. Thanks for your help.
yellowdog Posted September 15, 2014 Report Posted September 15, 2014 Thanx for the follow-up and closing this thread. We hope you had a good trip. Yellowdog. Please use the PRICELINE and hot.wire links on the board to begin your purchases and searches.
