I am planning a trip to Chicago September 12th to the 14th for the Garth Brooks concert. I have a hotel reserved in Rosemont for the night of the 12th but I am needing some help for the night of the 13th (which also happens to be my birthday). I have been looking at Price.line name your own price and express deals and there are just so many options!

The three biggest things I would like to do in Chicago would be the Chicago Museum of Art, the Field Museum and the Navy Pier. I was looking at the North Michigan Ave - River North area and the The Loop - Grant Park area. Both look good but not sure which one to stay at. I am also toying with the idea of staying outside of Chicago and driving in each day since parking at hotels cost so much. I would like to enjoy the lake at night so maybe staying in Chicago would be better but if someone could help me out I would really appreciate it.

There are a few hotels I am looking at on Priceline.Express deals option below are some of them and if someone could help me pinpoint the hotel that would be great:

1. 4 Star Hotel Millenium Park, Loop & Grant Park Area $187

    * Indoor Pool

    * Pets Allowed

    * Business Center

    * Fitness Center

2. 4 1/2 Star Hotel North Michigan Ave - River North Area $205

    * Indoor Pool

    * Pets Allowed

    *Restaurant

    * Business Center

    * Fitness Center

Those are the two major ones I was looking at, if anyone has anymore suggestions I am all ears! Also should I just bite the bullet and try to name my own price for a 4 or 4 1/2 star hotel? I know this is a lot to ask but I just don't want to pick the wrong hotel or end up paying too much for something when I could save some money. Thank you!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Few comments to get started:

1) please read your messages

2) where and how much is your hotel for the nite of the 12th? Do you really want to change hotels each day of this trip?

3) if you stay outside of the city and drive in, where do you expect to park once you arrive? If you stay in the city you can park at a location separate from your hotel and i don't think it will cost you that much more than parking in the city each day

4) what is your target budget for this stay?

If you booked conventionally, you could likely do better outside the city via Hot.wire or Price.line, as - unless there's something unusual going on - the suburbs are often much more reasonable than the city.

You can drive to a Metra station and then take the Metra train (which is going to be a good deal more comfortable than the CTA trains) into the city. I wouldn't really recommend driving in if you don't have to - the Metra trains are very nice and much cheaper than trying to find parking downtown.

I wouldn't really recommend Navy Pier - there's just very little about it that's memorable. Restaurants include things like an expensive McDonalds. It does have views (although you can get that elsewhere in the city) and it does have rides (which are brief and expensive) - but it's largely a tourist trap. If you do want to see the lake at night (not really that much to see looking out at it, it's largely dark - the city is pretty from the lake looking back towards the city but I wouldn't really go out of my way for the experience. River view at night is - for me - really more of a classic Chicago view, but river view rooms at hotels by the river are a paid upgrade.

On Friday I am staying at the Best Western at O'hare, I got a nice price though Priceline, it is within walking distance of the concert I am going to. It is not a bad hotel but I want something with a little bit more visual impact and some nice views. My target for a hotel would be from $150 - $180 or so. Aaron I have never taken a train before, we don't have that many in the cornfields of Iowa lol but I might be willing to try it. I just wonder if it would be better for me to just stay in Chicago, park and walk everywhere or train or drive in and try to find a parking garage. I hate really touristy places so maybe the Navy Pier won't be a good choice but really all I wanted to do is ride the Ferris wheel and take pictures I am a bit of a photo bug!

The 4.5* PRICELINE EXPRESS listing would be a possible match for the Intercontinental. I'd guess the MP-Loop-GP listing is either the Hilton or Palmer, more likely the former. I'm also seeing what appears to be the Sheraton for $189, although at that point I'd take the potential Intercontinental for about $15 more. I'm also seeing what appears to be the Hyatt on St Clair for $201. Let us know if either of these Hot.wire listings would be of interest and we would be happy to point out the specific listings on Hot.wire. Unfortunately, rates are around $180-200+ for 4*+ downtown for these dates. The North Suburbs are cheap and the Chicago Botanic Gardens (chicagobotanic.org, which is in the 'burbs) provide some great photography possibilities - however, in the North burbs, you are still looking at around a 35-40 minute train ride each way. Parking is free in the North suburban hotels. Let us know your thoughts on the above and we would be happy to offer further suggestions.

AaronJB I think tonight I will check those hotels out, Hopefully I can make a decision tonight so I can stop thinking about it all! Thanks for all the help I really appreciate it!

One question for you AaronJB when you say that the $189 hotel at Hotwire will be the Sheraton which Sheraton would it be, the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers or the Four Points by Sheraton Downtown/magnificent Mile? Thanks.

The potential Sheraton that I was seeing on HOTWIRE would be the Sheraton Towers. However, I'm not seeing it this morning - I'm seeing a 4* in the River North NMA area for about the same price ($188) w/:

  • Free Breakfast
  • Free Internet
  • Pet friendly
  • Fitness Center
  • Business Center
  • Internet access
  • Spa Services
  • Accessible path of travel
  • In-room accessibility
  • Accessible bathroom
  • Roll-in shower
This would likely be the Kinzie, and that would be a considerably better option for the same money than the Sheraton.

AaronJB the Kinzie looks like a really nice hotel but last night I used your help and I went for that 4 1/2 star on HOTWIRE at the Magnificent Mile North - Water Tower area and was indeed the Hyatt!!! Before I booked at Hot.wire I tried to name your own price on PRICELINE. I choice the North Michigan Ave - River North Area and tried for a 4 1/2 star. I first tried $170 denied, then $180 and denied I lastly tried $195 and was again denied. After failing at Priceline I went back over to Hotwire and looked for the $201 that AaronJB said was the Hyatt at that point the price dropped to $198 so I decided to go for it since that is a good price for a 4 1/2 star hotel. Thanks for all the help, I can't wait for my trip now!
