brufen Posted August 11, 2014 Report Posted August 11, 2014 Hi all, I have been lurking on this forum for a while trying to see how everything works. I have read lots of the advice but am still a bit confused so wondered if anybody could help me. I would like to stay in a 4 star hotel for 6 nights from 1 to 7 December. Midtown East would be perfect, but also Times Square, MSG close to Penn Station, empire state area etc would also be great. Basically anywhere a bit central where it is very walkable to the action of the usual tourist sights and shopping areas. I am staying with a friend and we would really like to not have to share a bed if possible, but understand we may need to compromise on that to get a good deal. Does anybody have any thoughts on what level I should start bidding at? I know December is expensive and my cap is USD300 per night all in which is the price of the One UN New York for those dates. Thanks so much in advance!
thereuare Posted August 12, 2014 Report Posted August 12, 2014 Welcome to BetterBidding! Regarding zones: All of these are generally considered to be well located and no 'known' issues to report: MTW, TS, ESB, MSG The following may or may not be acceptable based upon the following caveats: MTE - note that the ONE UN is about a 15 minute walk to the subway (would this be acceptable... it can be cold in December). Also, some other hotels in this zone can be up to a 10 minute walk. CPS - usually avoided at the 4* and less level due to the Hudson hotel which has notoriously small rooms Chelsea - can be a 10 minute walk to the subway but a 'hot' area right now so likely still desirable Please confirm which zone(s) are acceptable, as well as confirm your maximum bid price, and we will suggest a strategy for you to follow.
