johnquad Posted August 10, 2014 Report Posted August 10, 2014 I need some advice for 9/19 - 9/21. I'm not sure what's going on this weekend but rates seem to be higher than usual. We need 2 rooms and we want to be on the strip. We would go as low as 3.5 stars (whatever the Luxor and Excalibur are) but would like a 4 star +. I have a fully refundable backup reservation .5 miles from the strip for a 3 BR at the Wyndham Grand Desert for a total of $642 + tax. Any chance of beating this for 2 rooms on the strip? Thanks,John
johnquad Posted August 11, 2014 Author Report Posted August 11, 2014 I bid from $130-$155 for 4-5 stars in North and South Strip areas. I was given the option to increase my bid to $184 for a 5 star in the Strip North and South areas. I chose not to. John

All it really means is there is something somewhere between your last bid and $184. You were wise not to accept. If you keep working on up, sooner or later it should work. While roughly 1/2-way usually works, there are instances of just a dollar or two additional working. On the other hand, I did once have a counter-offer and crept up toward it $1 at a time. I actually finally got clear to the offer number and it wasn't successful. I have to assume that in the days I was bidding, somebody else nailed the available room(s). The beauty of your backup reservation is you can keep bidding to score a better deal right up to the last minute. Good luck. Romelle
thereuare Posted August 11, 2014 Report Posted August 11, 2014 What is your maximum bid for a 5* hotel? For a 4* property? HOTWIRE has what looks to be the Westin Casuarina for $138/nite... this property is in the Strip Center zone although it is actually slightly off-strip (but a do-able walk) There is also what i think is the SLS Hotel and Casino for $118/nite, but i'll point out that the reviews for this one are not that good (3.0/5.0 TA rating) and it may not be much of an improvement over your current back-up reservation. scorpio2323 Posted August 11, 2014 Report Posted August 11, 2014 I know the I heart radio music festival is going on the weekend of the 19th. That is probably why the rates are higher.
johnquad Posted August 16, 2014 Author Report Posted August 16, 2014 Thanks everyone. I went with the SLS on Hot.wire for $120/nt. The 3.5/5.0 reviews are bogus. The hotel doesn't even open until August 23rd. I think it will become a very desirable property soon.
thereuare Posted August 16, 2014 Report Posted August 16, 2014 Congratulations on your success! Glad to see you received the hotel you were hoping for and that you're pleased with the results. Thank you for sharing your win with the board and helping us confirm this property for the Hotwire Hotel List.
