Priceline Hotel: Bidding Help, Please - NYC after Christmas

Hello,

I would greatly appreciate some help with bidding for NYC, from 12/27 to 12/30 (3 nights).  I have looked to see if there are specific guidelines for posting such a request, and could not find one, so my apologies if this is not done correctly.

We are looking for a 4* or better in the Midtown West or Times Sq areas, with Midtown East as my next choice, and Central Park South as a back-up. I have seen a few references to CPS not being a good choice for 4*, though I was not able to see why. However, I am not married to that as a choice, and it would be my last preference of these anyway.

If MTE has equal or better hotels at signifcantly less, we would be happy to stay there instead, as it's only a 10 minute walk from Grand Central to Times Square anyway.

Our dates would be 12/27 to 12/30.

I have not yet tried bidding, but have researched PRICELINE EXPRESS Deals at $242 and $290 in MTW, $213 in MTE, and and regular pricing ($370 and up).

My budget could go to $225, but (obviously) I would prefer to get a room for the best price possible, and if it's less, that's a good thing :-).  And I can bid immediately if that is the best policy, or wait, if that makes more sense.

Thank you!

The 'problem' with these dates is that they are so close to NYE which is a busy, and therefore expensive, time of year in NYC (although the days immediately before and after Christmas are generally fairly inexpensive)

At currently prices I think a 4* hotel in the zones you listed will likely run you between $190-$210/nite... but if the MSG zone is acceptable HOTWIRE has a 4* hotel with a 4.5/5.0 TA rating for $189/nite with:

Free Internet

Smoke Free

Fitness

Restaurant

Business

Hi-Speed Internet

Travel Accessible

Room Accessible

Bathroom Accessible

Roll-in Shower

... best guess for this one would be the TRYP Times Square South

Given the high TA rating and well within your budget, would this be acceptable for your plans and would you like to take this one, or do you prefer to try bidding on PRICELINE for the previously listed zones? If bidding first on PRICELINE should we lower your maximum bid to $190 OR is this not an acceptable property and you'd like to keep your maximum bid at over $200/nite? Also, if bidding on PRICELINE, did you first want to bid for only MTW and TS up to your limit, then if rejected add MTE (and CPS)... or would the goal be the least expensive 4* or better in any of your acceptable zones?

The CPS is often avoided at the 4* and under level as it contains the Hudson Hotel, which while well located, has notoriously small rooms (even by NYC standards)
