Priceline Hotel: London 3* strategy

Hello,

I'm visiting London with my wife for the first time next year, from Apr. 10th to Apr. 15th, and I'm shocked by the hotel cost vs benefit ratio there.. It seems impossible to find a decent 3* hotel (which I KNOW will be more like a 2*) in the more central areas (priceline's 1,2,9,10,12,14 zones) for US$100... I'm even scared that priceline will accept my bid and I'll end up in a horrible place, paying more than 500 dollars to be disappointed.

Will you please help me with a decent strategy so maybe I can find something nice for less than 125 dollars per night (which is what a travelodge room costs, my last resort)? Thanks in advance!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

The zone numbers will change any time that PRICELINE adds, removes, or re-names zones. To avoid any confusion (especially with your stay being 8+ months away) please list the zones that you are willing to accept (by PRICELINE name) and we will suggest a strategy for you to follow.

Also, have you looked at PRICELINE EXPRESS (use our BiddingHelper.com to see both HOTWIRE and PRICELINE EXPRESS with just one search) as i'm seeing quite a few offers in the $90-$125 range for 3* and higher rated hotels in some of the zones that you list as being acceptable.

In particular, since quality seems to be a concern, i'll highlight the 3.5* hotel in the Bloomsbury-Marble Arch zone for $98/nite with Free Internet and Business Center amenities showing. While this property has not yet been reported to the board (a guess would be the Studios2Let), this property does have an impressive 9.0/10.0 user review rating from previous PRICELINE guests so it should provide a good experience.

As well, for not much more than your $125 budget, there is a 4* hotel in the Westminster zone for $141/nite.

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.

Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly.

Thanks for your reply!

The zones I'm interested in are Bloomsbury, Mayfair, The City, Notting Hill and maybe Westminster... I tried the BiddingHelper.com, it shows an error with priceline (no listings).

That 3.5* caught my attention too  and I'm almost sure it's Studios2Let... I'm very tempted, but since I have a lot of time I'll try bidding for a while before accepting travelodges, studios2let or premier inns.. You know what? Next time I'll just go to Florida and have a great time on a dime, I'm so frustrated with Europe and its crazy prices and I haven't even gone yet! Sorry... rant.

So please, if you could help me try and find a 4* for 125 dollars MAX (a lucky strike, who knows!) I'll be thankful forever... Or even a 3* for under 100 dollars (as it should be anywhere in the world, and for REAL three star standards). I've been bidding (using the links here) for a week, got nothing so far.

Thanks in advance!

Begin typing "Londo..." in the search box and select 'London, England, UK' from the drop down menu. If you continue to have any issues please send me a PM so we can help in resolving.

Or even a 3* for under 100 dollars (as it should be anywhere in the world, and for REAL three star standards).

As it sounds like you're aware, star ratings in Europe are a bit more generous then their US counterparts and a 3* in London could be equivalent to a 2*/2.5* in the States. If quality is a concern i'd suggest sticking with 4* and higher at the moment (especially since there are 4* offers for not much more than your current maximum bid)

Have you been including Westminster (and all the other acceptable zones) in your bidding so far? Have you bid as high as $125/nite for these dates?

Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.
