ArdeFS Posted August 5, 2014 Report Posted August 5, 2014 I'm using Hot.wire to find a hotel in Midtown East (NYC) between Oct 17-19. It looks like it has an 85% customer review. The price I'm getting is $305/night and the amenities are: pet friendly, fitness center, restaurant, business center, self-service laundry, and internet access? Any thoughts?
thereuare Posted August 5, 2014 Report Posted August 5, 2014 Welcome to BetterBidding! We have not yet seen a property with this amenity set reported to the board, but my guess(es) would be (in this order): Waldorf Astoria, The New York Palace, Omni Berkshire. Do you need to be in this zone and/or need a 4.5* property as i'm seeing what i would think are better values for your dates: Flatiron hotel for $269/nite Ink48 for $293/nite (great hotel but not so great location, imo) St. Giles - The Tuscany for $302/nite Are any of the above of interest or do you want to stick with the MTE zone and property above? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed (or how it goes) and we'll take it from there. ArdeFS Posted August 9, 2014 Author Report Posted August 9, 2014 Thanks so much for the reply. I haven't pulled the trigger yet because I'm trying to narrow down the possibilities to where I have a decent shot at getting the NY Palace. Does the unknown hotel for the same date ever change as you get closer to the date? Also on a slightly unrelated note, when using PRICELINE name your own price, do they ever accept a lower price as the date gets closer to when you would stay? For example, if I bid $300/night now to stay in October and get denied, is it possible that as I get closer to the date they will accept a $300 bid? Thanks!
AaronJB Posted August 10, 2014 Report Posted August 10, 2014 October is generally a busy period in NYC. While there is the chance a lower bid may be accepted closer to your stay, the rate required for a win can just as easily - especially during a busy period - go higher. A listing may change tomorrow or may stay the same - there's no way to know. However, again, prices and options can get worse instead of better. Are you only looking for the Palace? Both discount service really require some flexibility, as there's no way to know if the Palace may even offer for your dates. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
