travellingtom Posted November 27, 2005 Report Posted November 27, 2005 Hi,I would like to stay near the downtown/gaslamp quarter and I won't have a car. I'm afraid of bidding on the Downtown/HarbourIsland category because it seems all the hotels won are on Harbour Island which is hard to get around without a car. Is it better to bid for another area that is more accessible by tram rather than risk being on Harbour Island? What areas have easy transportation to the downtown? Thanks.
travellingtom Posted November 27, 2005 Author Report Posted November 27, 2005 Jan 19-22, 2.5 star, downtown/Harbor Island - San Diego, Rest/Fitness/Pool/Laundry, Customer favorite, $89. Anyone know which this hotel would be? Thanks.
thereuare Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 The above 2.5* matches the Holiday Inn Downtown so that would be our best guess... is that convenient to mass transit for you? bbbb Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 The Sheraton harbor island has been coming up for bids less then $100. This now makes 4* bidding downtown a bigger risk then before if you don't have a car.
travellingtom Posted November 29, 2005 Author Report Posted November 29, 2005 Thanks for you comments. Yes, the Sheraton is exactly my concern in the 4 star category and it comes up a lot. Then the Hilton Harbor Island is a concern for the 3 star, but I don't know whether the Hilton comes up a lot or not. I heard some pretty bad reviews for the Holiday Inn, so I'm reluctant to pay $89 on Hotwire for it. I wish I knew the best approach.
travellingtom Posted January 4, 2006 Author Report Posted January 4, 2006 There's a 2.5 star San Diego Gaslamp Qtr for $78 from Jan 19-22. There is no hotel amenities description and there are no 2.5 star hotels in the pinned list. Please help me identify if possible. Thanks.

travellingtom Posted January 5, 2006 Author Report Posted January 5, 2006 The Holiday Inn Downtown has an entertainment discount rate of $89 (courtesy hold with no obligation) for Jan 19-22, which is the same as the non-cancelleable hotwire price. I've booked this for now. Hopefully I can get a bettter hotel (3 or 4 star, or in Gaslamp qtr) closer to my travel dates.
travellingtom Posted January 5, 2006 Author Report Posted January 5, 2006 Done. Booked directly with Park Central in NY, and the San Diego trip is the one this thread is referring to. Have booked at HI downtown San Diego as a back up for $89/nt.
thereuare Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 Please keep all theads for the same stay in the same thead. Also, you can book the Entertainment Card rate thru our link to the Holiday Inn website (just select the entertainment rate from the dropdown list). travellingtom Posted January 6, 2006 Author Report Posted January 6, 2006 Thanks for the info. I will do that from now on. I guess you don't know what hotel the 2.5* is?
travellingtom Posted January 6, 2006 Author Report Posted January 6, 2006 By the way, I just tried to use your Marriott link to book a hotel, but the Entertainment Card rate is not in the drop down menu. Do I have to enter a code directly?
thereuare Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 The Marriott doesn't offer that option... the Holiday Inn does. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
travellingtom Posted January 11, 2006 Author Report Posted January 11, 2006 Tried to bid 3* to stay away from the 4* Sheraton Marina. Thought would be safe and would get downtown location since 3* Hilton airport rate was pretty high. First bid 3* DT, $85 rejected. Added Miramar $88 accetped. Upon confirmation, they upgraded me to the 4* Sheraton so I ended up in Harbour Island anyway. Oh well, I guess it could be worse. Used Savingsbarn.com link.P.S. Dates were Jan19 for 3 nights
thereuare Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 Hotel direct rate is $200+ so it certainly seems like a good deal, although not the hotel you were hoping for. Thanks for the post and for using the SavingsBarn.com links to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay.
