FloridaUser Posted July 18, 2014 Report Posted July 18, 2014 Hi. I’m not familiar with Atlanta and could use some assistance re hotels near the Atlanta (Hartsfield) airport. We’re driving from to Atlanta from North Carolina Saturday afternoon (08/30) and flying out of Atlanta the next day around 12:30 pm. We need to return the rent-a-car Sunday morning, so we’re looking for a hotel that’s within about 45 min. drive to the airport. We’re getting into the Atlanta area late in the afternoon, so we’re not really concerned with hotel amenities. We just need a nice place in a safe area to get a good night’s sleep and a few close casual restaurants for dinner and breakfast.Any suggestions regarding which zones to use when bidding on PL? I’m really not particular about the hotel chain but would prefer a 3.5 – 4.5 star hotel. I suspect the prices will be higher since it’s Labor Day weekend, but I would be really happy if I could get a 4.0-4.5 star for under $160. I see the Buckhead zone has JW Marriott (wife’s favorite hotel chain) as a possibility. Is Buckhead an easy drive to the airport? Any bidding price recommendations? [i understand it's bid at my own risk. :) ]Thanks! I will, of course, use the links from this site when bidding.
thereuare Posted July 18, 2014 Report Posted July 18, 2014 I'm actually a bit surprised how high rates are for these dates. I'm not local to this area so i don't know typical traffic patters (although i suspect a Sunday morning wouldn't be too bad), but it sounds like you don't need too much more than a bed to sleep in, so i would tend to expand your zones a bit further than Buckhead (especially given the higher prices i'm seeing for this nite) It looks like Norcross may offer your best bang for the buck, but this looks to put your about 45 minutes from the airport (but does give you two highway routes to the airport which would be good if you're able to check traffic conditions of each route in the morning). The Galleria zone looks good too (price-wise) but may be a bit out of your way depending upon the route. Are you not staying near the airport in order to make the distance traveled on Saturday a little shorter? Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. FloridaUser Posted July 18, 2014 Author Report Posted July 18, 2014 Thanks for your input; it's much appreciated! We were originally thinking of staying in a small town more to the north or east of metro Atlanta. We figured it would be less stressful to stay the night closer to the airport, but not necessarily in one of the airport zones. After I posted here last night, I went to PL.com and ran a search just to see what the rates were in Buckhead without the secret bidding. I was quite surprised at how high they were. I will bid tonight on one of the other zones and will post my results. Thanks again!

FloridaUser Posted July 18, 2014 Author Report Posted July 18, 2014 Atlanta Airport Marriott for $110.00 (45%) savings after bidding through the PRICELINE link from this site. I might have even overpaid a little bit, so read on if you're bidding in the Airport ATL South zone. I started out bidding on 4* in Buckhead, just to see if I could get a deal. Before bidding, I did some direct searching and the prices in Buckhead were very high ($350+) for this night (Saturday on Labor Day weekend). I bid $160 & $180 but no luck. I added Airport ATL North and had unsuccessful bids in $10.00 increments from $75 - $135. I added Airport ATL South and dropped my bid back down to $110 and won the first bid. My plan was to start bidding again around $75.00 (since I added a new zone), but I needed to get back to work so I instead started at $110. You might be able to get a winning bid for less in this zone, but I'm really happy with the price and the hotel.
AaronJB Posted July 18, 2014 Report Posted July 18, 2014 Congrats on your success. :) Glad you are satisfied with the win and are looking forward to your stay. Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches. Enjoy your stay.
