Priceline Hotel: Savannah Bid- How far out?

I've seen multiple posts on tripadvisor stating that if you bid 4* and up for Savannah you are likely to get the Westin for $100 or less. I am traveling on the weekend of July 18th and I've bid $75-105 so far without luck in the Historic District. Should I wait for the trip to be closer? Or is it a good idea to bid a 3.5*? It seems like the options in the historic district for 3.5* are nice enough. We just don't want to have to drive from the hotel. Its an optional trip and I really can't go for much more than $100 or so a night so I was counting on a good priceline deal. Thanks!

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

The 18th is less than a couple of weeks away, so hotels are likely to have a good idea of demand at this point for that period - it's not too far out, it's getting more "last minute".

Can you confirm the exact date/s - 18th-19th, 18th-20th? Looking at the 18th alone, rates look noticeably higher-than-normal in the historic district area.

Rates are date specific and you may not be able to replicate another user's win... especially if their dates are different then your own.

Currently the Savannah Westin is $249/nite for your dates, so while we will suggest a strategy up to whatever amount you'd like, i think at this time a win at $100 or less is a very low probability bet. (my guess at the moment is that you're likely looking at the $150-$175 area for a 4* hotel)

Is this a flexible trip that you will only take if you can get something near $100/nite or is this a trip that you will be taking regardless of price and you need a room?

To move forward please confirm the maximum bid you'd like to use at this point in time and we will suggest a strategy for you to follow.

It's a flexible trip but I'd say we'll most likely still go that weekend and stay outside the historic district. My max bid is probably $110. If that can't happen anywhere in savannah, I'll have to reconsider savannah. We are meeting people coming from Tampa so even the location is flexible, we just like Savannah and its inbetween. Its an anniversary trip but kids coming too. Open to other suggestions within same drive time for both parties that might have better rates.

what about 3.5* hotels in the historic district? odds of those being closer to $100?

Thanks!

On Hot.wire, the 3.5* for Savannah Historical District is $186 (there isn't a 3* offer).

However, further out there is a 3* Savannah Southside with free parking, internet and breakfast?

For further detail, you can use the little Hot.wire box top left.  Similarly, the Price.line box top right could show you the Priceline.Express deals.

Considering the flexibility of your trip, you also might like to work with Maps and Hotels up in the Toolbox.   You can search with a specific radius, and all sorts of other limitations.  I think it could help you zero in on where you want to focus.

there is a PRICELINE 3.5* option though, just wondering if i include that around $100 if it might be more likely. Doesn't seem to be any awful 3.5* options. I just really think with kids needing to go back and forth for naps, etc. its going to be a pain to have to drive back to the hotel for little stuff when everyone in the group might not need to go back as frequently. thanks!

In the Historic District i think you're looking at $145-$165 for a 3.5* or better... $120-$140 for a 3* or better.

If you search using our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com, filter to only show 3* and higher rated hotels, then zoom in on the map for the area around this zone... you'll see 3* hotels star at about $200/nite and go up from there; sub-$100 for weekend dates during the summer doesn't seem likely.

Also, not sure how may rooms/adults/kids you will be, but keep in mind that PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed. While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request. If this is not a risk you're willing to accept, HOTWIRE would still be an option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy and ensure sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search (although this usually means two beds, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway, etc)
