sharona24 Posted July 8, 2014 Report Posted July 8, 2014 I am looking to book a hotel in Paris from the 26th-29th of August, 4* -- I noticed that this classification in Paris includes a wide range in quality of hotel, which makes me not want to try the bid on Priceline, because I have no idea what I'd be getting. I was checking out the Express Deals and wondered if you could help me figure out which hotels these are, to know if I want to choose one of these options. Here's what comes up: 4* Hotel, Champs Elysees -- Arce De TriomphePrice: $128/nightGuest Rating: 8Free Internet 4* Hotel, Opera Quarter West - Jardin des TuileriesPrice: $126/ntGuest Rating: 9Free Internet; Pets Allowed 4* Hotel, Eiffel TowerPrice: $135/ntGuest Rating: 8Free Internet; Pets Allowed 4* Hotel, Opera Quarter East - Louvre Museum AreaPrice: $96/ntGuest Rating: NAFree Internet; Pets Allowed So, those are the Express Deals available in the areas I searched (which includes: Champs Elysees - Arc De Triomphe, Champs Elysess Etoile - Avenue Monceau, Montmartre/Sacre Coeur/Pigalle, Opera Quarter East - Louvre Museum, and Opera Quarter West - Jardine des Tuileries). If you have any clues regarding which hotels these might be or if you have recommendations on how to tailor a search on Name Your Price bidding so I can ensure a relative level of hotel "quality" in one of these areas, I would really appreciate the help. Thanks! Sincerely, Sharon
sharona24 Posted July 8, 2014 Author Report Posted July 8, 2014 After having done a little more research, looking at hotel price results on the regular priceline hotel search, I think I'm finding that the hotels that may be listed on PRICELINE EXPRESS Deals are actually MORE expensive than if I were to just book them directly through Price.line's regular search. Has anyone found this before? Sharon
thereuare Posted July 8, 2014 Report Posted July 8, 2014 Welcome to BetterBidding! After having done a little more research, looking at hotel price results on the regular priceline hotel search, I think I'm finding that the hotels that may be listed on PRICELINE EXPRESS Deals are actually MORE expensive than if I were to just book them directly through PRICELINE's regular search. Has anyone found this before? That's not likely to be the case... what 4* hotels are you seeing matching the zone(s) above that are priced less than the PRICELINE EXPRESS rate? sharona24 Posted July 9, 2014 Author Report Posted July 9, 2014 The searches change pretty quickly. The results I got today when testing it out are not the same as those that showed up yesterday, and I didn't identify any hotels on the regular search that matched the Express Deal description and were less expensive on the regular search when I searched today. It appeared that way on a a couple of the hotels yesterday, though. I ended up bidding on a 4* hotel in the Champs Elysees-- Arc de Triomph, Eiffel Tower, And Opera East/West areas. I started at $75 and went up to $100, at which point my bid was accepted. The hotel is the Best Western Premier Opera Faubourg. It's normal rate is $139, so it's a pretty good savings. Unfortunately, all current reviews give the hotel 1* ratings and indicate this hotel is under heavy construction/renovations. It might be really nice in about 6 months, but it sounds like a war zone currently. I called Priceline to tell them that, while I expect there are some risks with the Name Your Own Price option, I don't expect to be booking a night in at a heavy-duty construction site. They are supposed to call me back momentarily, as they said they would make an exception to their policies in this case and potentially cancel my booking, giving the construction zone issue. I'm currently waiting to see if they call back and say it's canceled. I as worried about the Name Your Own Price option for a Paris hotel, and it appears my concerns were pretty valid, based on this experience. I'll let you know if the booking is successfully canceled and if I decide to do any other Priceline wheeling and dealing after this. I'm thinking not, at the moment.

thereuare Posted July 10, 2014 Report Posted July 10, 2014 If you are able to work this out with PRICELINE and are looking to re-book, you can try HOTWIRE or PRICELINE EXPRESS where you may be able to take a good guess as to the hotel offered before your purchase. If you decide to book direct, please use our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com and/or the links in our Support Page. Good luck!
