wonderlust78209 Posted July 7, 2014 Report Posted July 7, 2014 I have never used an online bidding site but I'm opening to trying it for a quick trip this Christmas. I'm looking for a 4* hotel in the following areas: CPS, TSQ, MTW, MTE. Should I consider other areas such as UES, UWS, or ESB or HK? What should I target my bid at? I was thinking at starting at $150 and I'm willing to go up to about $175. Any advice?
wonderlust78209 Posted July 7, 2014 Author Report Posted July 7, 2014 Looking to try bidding for upcoming trip this Christmas. Looking to be in CPS, MTW/E, TSQ. Should I expand my search to the UWS, UES, empire state building area or hell's kitchen? I'm looking to stay under about $175. What should I target my bidding at? I'm new to hotel bidding so any advice would help!
thereuare Posted July 7, 2014 Report Posted July 7, 2014 Welcome to BetterBidding! Please start by reading your messages. At the 4* level the following zones are generally considered to be well located: MTW, TS, MSG, ESB The following are also generally well regarded but have some caveats that you should be aware of: MTE - most 4* hotels are well located but the One UN Plaza is a bit far east and up to a 15 minute walk to the subway (although what appears to be the W New York is offered for $167/nite on PRICELINE EXPRESS, if there is any interest in trying to target this property) Chelsea - a little west and the subway can be up to 10 minutes away, but this is a 'hot' area with lots of boutiques, restaurants, cafes, bars, etc. so it is still a frequently bid and desirable area CPS - well located but contains the Hudson Hotel which has notoriously small rooms which many try to avoid Based upon the above let us know your acceptable zones and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. wonderlust78209 Posted July 8, 2014 Author Report Posted July 8, 2014 I am very interested in that mention of the W Hotel in MTE for $167 (I saw that today!). However, I would really like to avoid the One UN Plaza as we will be there during the colder months and prefer to be more centeraly located! Any suggestion on how to identify the 4* star express deal hotel or persue it?
wonderlust78209 Posted July 8, 2014 Author Report Posted July 8, 2014 I would like to expand to TSQ, MTW, ESB if you think there are better deals there!
thereuare Posted July 8, 2014 Report Posted July 8, 2014 At the 4* level HOTWIRE looks to currently be your best deal with the 4* MTE property for $157/nite: Pet Friendly Boutique Fitness Restaurant Business Laundry Hi-Speed Internet Spa ... best guess for this would be the W New York (and this one isn't the One UN New York since 1) currently the One UN is not currently pet friendly, 2) this property has a 4.5/5.0 user review rating for 'location' which i don't believe the One UN would have) Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
wonderlust78209 Posted July 8, 2014 Author Report Posted July 8, 2014 I ended up booking that deal on Hotwire and it was the W NYC Midtown! Can't wait, thanks for all the help!
AaronJB Posted July 8, 2014 Report Posted July 8, 2014 Congrats on your success. :) Great deal for this W property and glad you are excited about your stay. Thank you for confirming the change in amenity set for this Hot.wire property so that we can update the site's Hotwire Hotel List. Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches. Enjoy your stay.
thereuare Posted July 8, 2014 Report Posted July 8, 2014 Glad to see you received the hotel you were hoping and are happy with the outcome. You're also near my often recommended Ess-A-Bagel (Third Ave at 51st St) which has one of the best bagels in the city, makes for a nice, and relatively inexpensive, breakfast among local NYers. Have a great time in NYC... and let us know if you have any city questions that we can help with.
