We are looking for a one night stay on 9/11/2014  prior to leaving from SJU.  We prefer either Old San Juan/Condado or Rio Grande area, with a budget of approximately $100 per night per room.  We need 2 rooms for 4 adults.  I have previously stayed on the Convention Center Sheration, and would prefer not to stay at that location, as we would like more beach area.

Thank you

If you're looking for a beach area i would sooner recommend the Isla Verde zone as this is more the 'real' beach area in San Juan, whereas most beaches in the Condado area are small and man-made... more of what i would consider to be a bay or inlet.

In the Isla Verde zone, HOTWIRE has what appears to be the El San Juan Hotel and Casino for $115/nite if you're willing to a little over your budget as this would give you a very nice location on the beach as well as being close to the airport.

What looks like the Rio Mar Beach Resort a Wyndham Resort is available in the Rio Grande-Farjado zone for $88/nite.

Let us know your thoughts on these offers and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there.

As we hope to visit either the Bio Bay tour or the rain forest, the Rio Grande is our preference.  Thank you for the info regarding the beach area.

So is there an interest in the HOTWIRE offer above in the Rio Grande zone?

the 2.5* amenities are: FULL AMENITIES: Free Parking, Free Internet, Business Center, Self service laundry, Tennis Nearby, In-room accessibility, Wheelchair accessible, Accessible bathroom, Handicapped parking, Roll-in shower

the 4* amenities are: FULL AMENITIES: Free Internet, Resort, Pet friendly, Beachfront hotel, Oceanfront hotel, Casino, Airport Shuttle, Smoke Free Rooms, Fitness Center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business Center, Internet access, Golf Nearby, Tennis Nearby, Spa Services, Children's actvities

If it's a resort (as the 4* is) will there be addtional resort fees or is the price inclusive?

Please keep all posts for this leg of your trip in the same thread.

Best guess for the 4* would be the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Beach Resort and Spa... with a lesser, but still possible, chance of the El Conquistador.

HOTWIRE usually shows any Resort fees on the detail page, but this is not always the case, and any resort fees would be paid directly to the hotel upon check-out. Do note that 'resort fees' can happen at any star level, not just Resort class properties... it has become a revenue source for hotels at all star levels and in some areas we have seen even 2 star properties charge a resort fee (and the hotel was far from what most would classify as a 'resort')

This would be a possible match for the San Juan Water and Beach Club.

Does anyone have any info on the San Juan Water and Beach Club?  The reviews on TA seemed quite mixed..however,we  will be there just one night after a week on the West Side of PR.  Thank you!

You will find that reviews of almost all San Juan hotels are very mixed. It's an expensive hotel market and when guests pay more they often expect more, but the service levels in San Juan (even at some of the top tier properties) don't match the prices.

Although part of the United States, Puerto Rico is still very much an island and the culture is to live life a bit slower and a bit more laid back. Due to the high hotel prices, this cultural difference is often interpreted as 'bad service', and a likely explanation for many of the poor reviews for many of the hotels in the area.

With the above noted, the hotel is well located and on one of the best stretch of beaches in the area.
