shealygg Posted July 6, 2014 Report Posted July 6, 2014 I have used Priceline numerous times successfully (both bidding and Express Deals). However, this time I need to make sure that I have room for 2 adults and 2 children. Prefer Times Squ or Midtown West and $200 or less per night. Advice and tips? Will be arriving July 30 and checking out Aug 2 (Wed - Sat). Any help appreciated...
AaronJB Posted July 6, 2014 Report Posted July 6, 2014 Welcome to Betterbidding. If you do need more than one bed, I would suggest not bidding on Price.line, where it's almost certain in NYC you will only get one bed. Price.line only guarantees double occupancy/1 bed, and in terms of 1 bed, that is probably most true in NYC. One can request two beds with the hotel - in a more family-friendly area like Orlando, you may have no problem. In NYC, the hotel is likely to say no, as two beds (when available) is often a paid upgrade. Hot.wire is a better option as you can indicate the amount of people in the party, but that should result in some form of bedding for the entire party - it can be two beds, but may also be 1 + rollaway or 1 + sofabed. What would be your desired budget per night for this stay and which zone/s would be acceptable? Also, sharing any prior wins (as separate posts) would be greatly appreciated. shealygg Posted July 6, 2014 Author Report Posted July 6, 2014 Preferred areas would be Times Square, Midtown West, or Central Park South....would like to be walking distance to Times Square. Would love to spend $200 or less per night for 3 nights (Wed arrive/Sat depart). I've not had to worry about the extra bed arrangement in prior bookings...at least in NYC.
thereuare Posted July 7, 2014 Report Posted July 7, 2014 Preferred areas would be Times Square, Midtown West, or Central Park South....The CPS has the Hudson Hotel which has no notoriously small rooms (even by NYC standards) and will definitely not accommodate 2adults/2children... are you sure you want to include this in your bidding? I've not had to worry about the extra bed arrangement in prior bookings...at least in NYC.Not sure what hotels you have won previously in NYC, but more than quad occupancy can certainly be an issue here as rooms are typically smaller than elsewhere in the country and a higher percentage of rooms only have one bed in them. As well, many hotels have started to consider rooms with 2 beds to be considered an upgrade and/or have been charging more for 2 bedded rooms (vs. 1 bed rooms) Please confirm if that you're willing to take the occupancy risk, or if you're not, if anything within your desired star rating, budget and location is offered on HOTWIRE when searching for 2adults/2children... and we'll take it from there. shealygg Posted July 7, 2014 Author Report Posted July 7, 2014 I'm definitely NOT willing to take the risk w quad occupancy in this situation. As I mentioned earlier, I've had success when it jwas ust two of us...so there was no risk of needing extra bed space. This is the first time (at least in NYC) where I've been faced with trying to accomodate 4, and knowing that it would be nearly impossible utilizing the PL bidding process. The other times where I've taken the risk were in much different locales where changing the room upon arrival was not an issue due to the size/location of the hotels. I understand that it is different in NYC and that this may not/probably will not be a viable option. Still, any assistance as to how 4 of us can stay reasonably affordably in those sections of NYC would be greatly appreciated.

If you search HOTWIRE for the amount of people in your party are you seeing any listings within your desired budget? If so, please provide the full details of the listing - all amenities, star rating, price per night before taxes/fees and zone.
