Hotwire Hotel: 4* Chicago (Magnificent Mile North - Water Tower) The Drake Hotel

I've been reading the board, trying to take in as much as possible.

Am trying to find a nice place to stay for one night - Friday 6/20.

I looked at the bidding for 4.5* in River North, and it said median price was $330.

On Hotwire, the only 5-star in River North is $219.

We live in Chicago, so it is not such a big deal where we stay - we would like to be in the city in a nice room.

I'll keep reading, but if there is a quick way to get up to speed, please let me know.

Thanks for the help.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

I've been reading the board, trying to take in as much as possible.

Please start by reading your messages.

I looked at the bidding for 4.5* in River North, and it said median price was $330.

Ignore the 'median' price shown by PRICELINE, it's often not accurate and not helpful in any bidding strategy.

On Hotwire, the only 5-star in River North is $219.

Is this in the Mag Mile - River North zone and has the following amenities:

Free Internet

Indoor Pool

Fitness

Pool

Restaurant

Business

Hi-Speed Internet

Spa

... if so, best guess for this property would be The Langham. Are you interested in this property at this price OR do you want to try bidding on PRICELINE? If the latter, what star rating and zone(s) would you like to try for and what would be your maximum bid?

If you go for the HOTWIRE offer let us know how it goes... if you'd like to move forward bidding on PRICELINE let us know the information above and we will suggest a strategy for you to follow... or if the above prompted more questions feel free to ask. :)

Thank you for the help.

I want to spend one night in Chicago, would prefer 4.5 / 5*.

Would like to spend around $200-$225 total - may not be possible.

With taxes/fees, the Hotwire 5* river north referenced above is $290 now (price went up).

I saw on Priceline Express, a 4.5* North Michigan Ave - River North for $202. Five minutes later, it went up to $240.

Advice appreciated. This is for tomorrow night 6/20, one night.

Thanks.

I'm seeing a 4* for $110 on Hot.wire in the Mag Mile N-Water Tower area w/fitness, business, restaurant, internet, pet friendly. While not what you wanted in terms of star rating, this would be an option if you want to focus less on hotel and more on other aspects of the stay - put what you were going to spend on hotel on a nice restaurant.

I'm seeing what may be the Burnham for $198. While not North of the river, I think this would be a very good boutique "anniversary" hotel in the Loop.

Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Thanks. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but when I go to Hot.wire (from the link here), put Chicago, 6/20-6/21, and choose Mag-mile/water tower, the cheapest four star I see if $167.

OK. Did Hot.wire. When I went back tonight, the price was back again. $114. The Drake.

$141.48 w tax

Thanks for the help. Seems like a decent deal. We'll see what room they give us.

I really don't think this could have worked out any better. This is a terrific, terrific price for the Drake, which is a great choice for an anniversary stay. Plus, plenty of money saved for other things (a nice dinner nearby.) Pretty fantastic discount, as well - more than half off ($260 retail.)

Enjoy your stay and happy anniversary! :)
