MikeNY
I have a question on resort fees when using Priceline.Express. I know most of the hotels in San Juan charge an 18% resort fee. When searching for a hotel with Priceline Express some of the hotels show a line for an additional mandatory fee, other do not. Will hotels that do not list an additional mandatory fee on Priceline.Express, still charge an additional resort fee at checkin/checkout? Link to comment
thereuare
Welcome to BetterBidding! If you haven't yet, please start by reading your messages. The hotel could charge an additional fee, but usually any fees are shown by PRICELINE EXPRESS (it's a recent addition shown when booking so there may be some hotels still not updated), so it would be best to at least try to identify the hotel beforehand to minimize the chance of any additional fees. In Puerto Rico there is an extra tax for hotels with casinos and it's usually these hotels that have the high 18% tax, so i'm guessing that the hotels that aren't showing the additional resort fee are not showing a Casino amenity among those listed? Do you have a specific PRICELINE EXPRESS and/or travel dates in mind at this point in time? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. MikeNY
I am going to stay 1 night January 9th. I went ahead and booked the deal with Priceline Express (using your link to PRICELINE), it was $209 for an oceanfront room before the 5% discount. The hotel ended up being the Condado Plaza Hilton. This hotel does charge an 18% resort fee, but even if I get charged the resort fee I will still save $50. I will also need a room from Jan 17th to Jan 20th. For one night I was willing to take a gamble on the hotel I get, but I am not sure I will for 3 nights. Link to comment
thereuare
Congratulations on your success! Glad to see that you received a nice deal, even after the Resort fee is added on. As per my previous message, if a Casino amenity was shown for this property (which based upon a current search for your dates i believe there was), this would have been a clue that there would likely be an additional resort fee (even if not shown by PRICELINE) Thank you for sharing your win with the board. Can you please add a reply to this thread with the full list of amenities that were associated with this property and shown before your purchase. If you'd like help with the remaining nites for this trip, feel free to start a NEW TOPIC for those dates. Keep in mind that even with an additional resort fee, a PRICELINE deal may be cheaper (and a better property) then what you may be able to get thru conventional booking channels without a resort fee. Also, HOTWIRE may be an option as well as they currently do a better job (still not 100% complete) of indicating the resort fees before purchase. Thank you for sharing your win and using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding. Enjoy your stay.
