kate00030 Posted June 18, 2014 Report Posted June 18, 2014 I'm looking for a hotel for June 19 (yes, a day away) in Chicago. I'd like to stay in River North at a 4* or 4.5* hotel. I'm willing to pay up to $130, and there's a PRICELINE EXPRESS deal for a 4.5* hotel for $129 so I'm thinking of just jumping on that (or the deal for $103 for a 4*), but I would like to get a better/cheaper deal if possible. Can I get a better deal through PRICELINE bidding? What should I bid? Thanks very much, Kate
AaronJB Posted June 18, 2014 Report Posted June 18, 2014 My thought is this: While the Intercontinental does get a few mixed reviews, I've thought it was a very nice hotel (and it has a very cool history.) The Intercontinental is also in a terrific location. Everything else at the 4.5* level is either very good or great. The 4* level in the NMA area has some absolutely wonderful hotels, some fine ones and a couple of ones that I think are weaker (Allerton, Whitehall.) 4.5* is going to be more expensive, but I don't think there's a "bad" option in the bunch. If you are seeing a 4.5* on Express Deals for $129, I'm guessing you could get something in the $105-115 neighborhood. Keep in mind that there's also the 5% off priceline.Express Deals coupon in my signature. You are probably looking at $75-90 for a 4*, but there are some lesser options that could be possible at the 4* level. Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
kate00030 Posted June 18, 2014 Author Report Posted June 18, 2014 Thanks so much! I think in that case I'll spring for the 4.5*. So does that mean I should start by bidding $105, and then use re-bids? What are the re-bids for that area/star level? Also, is there a limit to how late in the day on the day of a reservation you can bid for a room? If not, I can try again in 24 hours (1 p.m. EST on 6/19). Thanks, Kate
thereuare Posted June 18, 2014 Report Posted June 18, 2014 When bidding 4.5* in Chicago you have NINE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. Select 4.5* NMA-River North... Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $108, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $113, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $118, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $120 If the above is rejected you can take the 4.5* River North property from PRICELINE EXPRESS for $129/nite (which comes to $123/nite after using the discount code and link in my signature) Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Good luck and let us know how it goes. AaronJB Posted June 18, 2014 Report Posted June 18, 2014 You can try again in 24 hours, but given that there is a 4.5* on PRICELINE Express for $129 and there's a 5% coupon, if you get up to $120 as noted above and are unsuccessful, I'd just take the pl Express listing. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches. Additionally, let me know if you have any Chicago questions.
kate00030 Posted June 18, 2014 Author Report Posted June 18, 2014 Thanks! My $90 bid was rejected (they suggested raising to $120), so I'm going to re-bid. Just to confirm, the re-bid areas for 4.5* in NMA/River North Chicago are: Millenium Park, O'Hare North, Midway, Midway North, Franklin Park, Hyde Park, Lincoln Park, McCormick, and Skokie? (i.e. everywhere except O'Hare South). Thanks again.
kate00030 Posted June 18, 2014 Author Report Posted June 18, 2014 I ended up scoring the Omni for $110 (with taxes/fees, came to $135; rooms are regularly $299). GREAT deal. I'm very excited. Thanks for the help!
AaronJB Posted June 18, 2014 Report Posted June 18, 2014 Congrats on your success. :) I think that you really wound up with a wonderful result - the Omni is a great property and in a superb location right on Michigan Ave. Fantastic price, as well.
