diamondcutter Posted June 16, 2014 Report Posted June 16, 2014 Hello,Can anyone help me identify the following:Location: Fanueil Hall-North End-WaterfrontStar Rating: 5*Arrive: 9/29/14Depart: 10/1/14Full Amenities: Pet friendly, Boutique Hotel, Smoke Free Rooms, Fitness Center, Restaurant(s), Business Center, Self service laundry, Internet access, Spa Services, Accessible for the blind, Accessible for the deaf, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Wheelchair accessible, Accessible bathroom, Handicapped parking, Roll-in showerHotwire Reviews: 90% RecommendedTripAdvisor: 4.5 out of 5.0Sale Price: $276List Price: $501 My strategy for other cities on my east coast trip (Niagara Falls, Washington DC, New York) has been to lock up a refundable room for the time being until I can (hopefully) find a deeply discounted deal on Hotwire or Priceline. Based on what I've observed on the Boston hotels, I think I may need to lock in my location sooner rather than later as there are a limited number of hotel rooms in Boston. Also, I've noticed that pricing have been been steadily creeping up in Boston. Just a week ago, this same Hotwire deal was in the $230's. :( If I am able to identify this hotel, I would like to see if I can beat the price on Priceline. If not, I'll just book this room assuming it meets my needs. If I need help with a bidding strategy, should I open a new thread on the Priceline forum or request help in this thread? Thank in advance for any help you can provide!
thereuare Posted June 16, 2014 Report Posted June 16, 2014 The Boston Harbor Hotel or the Fairmont would be my best guess for this one, but even if successful bidding on PRICELINE, it won't necessarily be for one of these hotels, so why not start by bidding on PRICELINE up to this price point? If you'd like to start by bidding on PRICELINE, let us know your maximum bid and your acceptable zones and we will suggest a strategy for you to follow. You can reply here and keep all threads for this stay in this thread, once you win a hotel use the ADD REPLY and REPORT WIN button on the lower right corner of the page and the thread will automatically be moved to the correct section of the board (if necessary) Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. diamondcutter Posted June 16, 2014 Author Report Posted June 16, 2014 I would like to shoot for a 5* hotel on Priceline. My maximum bid is $250. The only zones with 5* hotels are Boston Common, Copley Square-Back Bay, and Downtown Boston-Harbor Front. In regards to the zones that I'd like to stay, I'm open to suggestions between the three with 5* properties. I'd like to be as centrally located as possible as my wife and I would really enjoy walking to all the major landmarks. We are not partiers, but wouldn't mind an area that will have enough activity so that we could walk around at night. I've read that Downtown Boston-Harbor Front might be the most suitable but would be open to Boston Common and Copley Square-Back Bay if you thought it would meet the criteria I mentioned. This is the BEST board for hunting down deals on Hotwire and Priceline. Thank you for the help and I will be sure to use the links to those sites whenever I can!
diamondcutter Posted June 16, 2014 Author Report Posted June 16, 2014 One more thing...my personal guess was that this was the Fairmont Battery Wharf also. If there was a reasonable probability that this was the Boston Harbor Hotel I'd lock the Hotwire deal in for sure! Also, the list price went down from $501 to $345 since this morning. The sale price is still $276.
thereuare Posted June 17, 2014 Report Posted June 17, 2014 I think all three zones would meet your criteria. Geographically speaking, Boston is a fairly small and compact city, and if the distance is too far to walk roundtrip, you can always take the train one direct and walk back in the other (or vice-versa). The Boston Harbor hotel would be a possibility (i don't see anything that would exclude this offer from being this hotel), but i think the Fairmont is a better guess of the two. If you want to try bidding for this stay you have FIFTEEN re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. Select 5* Boston Common, Copley Square, and Downtown... Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $200, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $205, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $210, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $215, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $220, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $225, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $230, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $235, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $240, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $245, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $248, if rejected add re-bid zone... diamondcutter Posted June 17, 2014 Author Report Posted June 17, 2014 Wow...the Hotwire deal is gone! It's been on Hotwire for weeks and as soon as I'm ready to make a play for it...it disappears. I'm snake bit when it comes to getting a hotel in Boston! I tried Priceline and increased my maximum bid to $275 and it still didn't get accepted! Right now there's a 5* on Priceline Express for $333. With the 5% off code it brings it down to $316. I'm debating whether to increase my Priceline threshold to $300.
diamondcutter Posted June 17, 2014 Author Report Posted June 17, 2014 I went to $300 and it still didn't get accepted! Oh well...back to the drawing board! :(

diamondcutter Posted June 17, 2014 Author Report Posted June 17, 2014 Great news! I checked PRICELINE EXPRESS and found that the 5* deal they were offering for Downtown Boston-Harbor Front dropped from $333 to $270 overnight. With the 5% "SUMMER14" discount, the nightly price was brought down to $256.50/night, which was $20 cheaper than the HOTWIRE deal that I missed out on!I decided to lock this property in and used the PRICELINE EXPRESS link via BetterBidding to do so. I ended up with the Fairmont Battery Wharf, which is what I suspected I would get. I'm relieved that it all worked out in the end. Hotels in Boston are expensive to begin with and prices on average seem to be creeping up the closer I get to my travel date. I'm thrilled to get a 5* hotel for cheaper than what a lot of 3* hotels are going for right now.It was $256.50/nt after I used the "SUMMER14" discount! Thanks thereuare for all your help! I really appreciate it!
