fingolfin269 Posted June 8, 2014 Report Posted June 8, 2014 Hello all. Fantastic site and I can assure you that after reading several threads I have checked my messages! :) I just want to be sure I'm looking at this correctly. Think I have it down but want to be sure. Dates: 12/26/14 (Fri) - 12/30/14 (Mon) - 4 nightsTarget: 5* Strip North Priceline Express Results: $149/nightO/D Swimming PoolFree ParkingRestaurantBiz CenterCasinoFitness CenterCondo All signs seem to point towards The Palazzo. Now, the way I understand this to work is that the only 5* hotels that are known in Strip North currently are Venetian, Palazzo, and Wynn. I'm actually ok with the $149/night for all 3. Would prefer Wynn least out of the 3 due to location but would certainly be happy if I ended up getting it for $149 as well. If I understand the basic strategy here I could now go to priceline and focus on Strip North and try to bid my way up towards $149/night (using the zone rebid strat) hoping for a better rate at 1 of the 3. Do I have a basic understanding? What am I missing? Any advantage to using hotwire in my situation? (Once I decide to take the plunge and get a win I will certainly update this thread as needed.)
AaronJB Posted June 8, 2014 Report Posted June 8, 2014 Welcome to Betterbidding. :) HOTWIRE and priceline.Express offer the ability to make an educated guess, based on the information showing. However, priceline.Express and HOTWIRE are usually a little more expensive than bidding (and HOTWIRE offers more amenities/details to make an educated guess), but at least you have the ability to make an educated guess. With bidding, if you bid for a 5* (for example) in a particular zone, you have to be willing to accept any property in that zone at that star rating. The lists provided on Betterbidding are only the hotels reported to the board, there could always be a new hotel participating, star rating change or other change. If you are okay with getting any of the possible 5*'s in this zone, you could work higher with re-bidding. However, do keep in mind that there is a 5% off coupon for priceline.Express Deals right now (see link and code in my signature) - take 5% off $149 and if you were to get to *that* point, then the Express Deal would be the option to go with. However, hopefully bidding will be successful for mildly-to-moderately less. Let us know if you have any questions *prior* to bidding. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
fingolfin269 Posted June 8, 2014 Author Report Posted June 8, 2014 Thanks for the reply Aaron. I understand that things can change without notice but do you (or anyone) happen to know if Trump typically shows up in known 5* North Strip priceline bidding purchases? I'd rather not win that so if it is possible I may just stick with either Express or Hotwire. Thanks again.
AaronJB Posted June 8, 2014 Report Posted June 8, 2014 The Trump has been reported to the board in the Strip North Vicinity zone previously, which is separate from Strip North. The list of hotels reported to the board can be found here: Priceline Hotel List Nevada. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted June 9, 2014 Report Posted June 9, 2014 I will add to the above that the zones/boundaries on HOTWIRE are different and the Trump is in the Strip North zone thru their service... but you can 'safely' avoid the Trump by choosing a hotel that shows a CASINO amenity (and you can do the same on PRICELINE EXPRESS as well). fingolfin269 Posted June 9, 2014 Author Report Posted June 9, 2014 Rebid Strategy: I want to give bidding on a 5* North Strip room a shot but want to be sure I understand the logic correctly. I've reviewed the different zones and it looks like I have a total of 11 bid opportunities at my disposal. Target:Vegas Strip North Area 5*Priceline Express$149/nt ($141.55 after 5% coupon)12/26 - 12/30O/D Swimming PoolFree ParkingRestaurantBiz CenterCasinoFitness CenterCondoThis looks like Palazzo I'm actually ok with this price but let's say I want to bid for a better price in the area. Would this be the basic strategy? 1+0 $90 (North Strip)1+2 $95 (North + zone without 5*)1+3 $100 (North + a different zone without 5*)1+4 $105 (etc.)1+5 $1101+6 $1151+7 $1201+8 $1251+9 $1301+10 $1351+11 $140Express $142 Thanks for taking the time to review this. Any advice would be appreciated. I do also know that I may also end up with something other than Palazzo but based on the latest known list it should be Palazzo, Venetian, or Wynn. One other note... Interestingly I've found that if I modify my dates to 12/25 - 12/30 or 12/26 - 12/31 I end up getting room selection options. The 12/26-12/31 range actually returns room selections that look like a direct match to Venetian considering some descriptions say 'Venetia'. The 12/25 - 12/30 just uses generic descriptions that tie back to either Palazzo or Venetian. Anyway, I just found that to be interesting...
thereuare Posted June 9, 2014 Report Posted June 9, 2014 Yes, you have the re-bid strategy understood, but given how sub-$100 has very little chance of being accepted i would adapt slightly to: Select 5* Strip North... Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $128, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $133, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $138, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $140 This way you are making a smaller bid increment as your bids have a higher chance of succeeding. Any questions feel free to ask. fingolfin269 Posted June 10, 2014 Author Report Posted June 10, 2014 No luck today. I'll try again tomorrow. Obviously there is plenty of time so I'm not in a huge rush. I definitely appreciate the assistance you've provided directly plus everything that's already available on the site. Will be sure to use the links when I book and will definitely report back once I have a win, whether via bidding or just purchasing a PRICELINE EXPRESS offer.
thereuare Posted June 10, 2014 Report Posted June 10, 2014 Did you try bidding up to $140? If so, why not take the PRICELINE EXPRESS offer for $142/nite? Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. Let us know whatever you ultimately decide for this stay or how we can be of further help along the way. fingolfin269 Posted June 10, 2014 Author Report Posted June 10, 2014 I had to change the bidding a bit as we decided to do 12/26 - 12/31 (who doesn't want an extra vacation day??). I did get up into the mid-$140s but stopped at $145 if I recall correctly. The revised dates resulted in an average price of $152/night with the following amenities: 5* North StripO/D Swimming PoolFree ParkingRestaurantBiz CenterCasinoFitness Center Room Selections: Luxury 1-King Suite, Venezia Luxury 1King Suite, Venezia Bella 2-Queen Suite, Bella 2 Queen Suite I know it seems obvious based on rooms but based on amenities this is likely the Venetian (or Palazzo), correct? One other note. I found a South Strip 5* and based on the amenities (no Casino) I'm assuming this is Vdara. It's price is $145/night. Why bring the Vdara into the discussion? Because I'm trying to convince myself that the price for the North strip hotel in the Express deal is actually a really good deal already without even worrying about bidding. Most resorts don't offer discounts on 12/30 due to New Years so that is causing a spike across the board. Thoughts? Thanks again for the support. Love the site, just wish I had found it sooner!
AaronJB Posted June 10, 2014 Report Posted June 10, 2014 Personally, I think the likely Venetian for not much more than the potential Vdara (plus the current SUMMER14 coupon can be used.) The 12/30 and 31 nights are definitely traditionally very busy and I would guess - if this year follows previous ones - that availability for those nights may become tighter/more expensive closer to the date/s. If you bid up to $145 for these date/s and there's the Venetian for not much more than that (plus 5% off), I'd just go with that. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
fingolfin269 Posted June 11, 2014 Author Report Posted June 11, 2014 Tried bidding again all the way up to $150 and no dice. Went ahead and took the PRICELINE EXPRESS deal. Palazzo, 12/26/2014 - 12/31/2014 (5 nights) $160/night average but with SUMMER14 code applied that comes out to $152/night. Not sure which you'd prefer to use for the edited title but there you go! Really appreciate the site and all of your insight.
thereuare Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 Congratulations on your success! Glad to see you received a nice deal for this stay and it was one of the hotels that you were hoping for.
