ndusseau Posted June 5, 2014 Report Posted June 5, 2014 Back in January 2014 I used your website to book a hotel on Hot.wire for a 4* hotel in NYC- Midtown East for $247, Oct 4-8, 2014. The amenities were pets allowed, fitness, restaurants, bus. center, internet and spa. Plus a high rating (85-90%?) I was guessing this was the Intercontinental Barclay because it has a spa and others don't, plus the high rating gave me confidence that it would be one of the nicer 4* hotels, if not. My reservation was confirmed at the Intercontinental Barclay. Very happy. I just received an email from Hot.wire saying that the Intercontinental Barclay is overbooked, and they they are walking us to...the Doubletree Metroplotian Hotel New York. Not happy. This is not acceptable because it is not a comparable hotel (many sites show it at 3*), it has about a 64% rating and it does not have a spa. I have stayed there on business and it not a nice hotel. I never would have made this booking at this price based on the lesser amenities and rating. Have you even seen this before? Any advice on how to deal with it? Thanks very much for any help you can offer.
thereuare Posted June 6, 2014 Report Posted June 6, 2014 It would be appreciated if you started to follow-up your threads with your wins/decisions as you make them so that the information can help others in a timely manner... not just when you have an issue or when you need help with an additional trip. :( My approach would be to tell HOTWIRE that the Doubletree is not acceptable because you wanted a hotel with a Spa and have them cancel the reservation. I would then use the board's HOTWIRE link for the 4* hotel in the ESB zone with a 4.5/5.0 TA rating and: Pet Friendly Smoke Free Fitness Restaurant Business Laundry Hi-Speed Internet Spa ... my guess for this property would be the Affinia Dumont. Let us know what you decide and how you resolve the issue with HOTWIRE. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
ndusseau Posted June 6, 2014 Author Report Posted June 6, 2014 Hotwire was not initially willing to make any changes.(It turns out that the Intercontinental Barclay was not overbooked, but is closing at the end of June.)I went up 3 levels of supervisors, and finally got a refund. Thanks for your suggestion.(And message heard....I will try to be better about posting wins.)
