Planning a trip to Chicago at the end of July, looking at a few:

2*  Downtown - Millennium Pak -Grant Park (Free internet, Restaurants, business center self-serve laundry) --- Travelodge ??

3* Magnificent Mile Area - River North (Fitness Center, Business Center, Internet Access, in-room accessibility, roll in shower)  -- Inn of Chicago ??

Anyone have any other recent winnings they can share?  Anyone have any experience staying at the Inn of Chicago?

TIA

EDIT:  sorry, my title got messed up... should read 2* and 3*

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

Please confirm the date/s of travel and we would be happy to take a look and try to ID the listings.

Additionally, I'd recommend against sub-3*, especially South of the river..

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread.

What is the room rate per nite for the first two hotels? What is your budget per nite for this trip and what is it that you're looking for from this stay... usually 2 star hotels and 4* hotels aren't both serious considerations for the same trip.

My dates of travel are 7/26 - 7/31.   I believe the 4* may be Kinzie Hotel?  Its the only one I can find that has free breakfast.

Also, do most hotels charge extra for parking or does it depend on the hotel?

All hotels but one or two charge for parking. You can see a list of parking charges at downtown hotels here: Chicago Hotel Parking Fee List.

Parking is somewhat less expensive at city garages, but still pricey in general downtown.

I'm not seeing a 4* w/breakfast in this zone when searching - are you searching for more than 2 adults?

Best guess for the 3* would be the Inn of Chicago... for the 4* at $185/nite, which zone is this located in, as i'm not currently seeing any hotel around this price in any zones when searching for your dates and 2adults/2children.

Are you still seeing this on your own HOTWIRE search?

The Inn of Chicago was formerly an older Best Western property that was given some renovations a couple of years ago. It has a first-rate location, but mixed/second-rate reviews.

I'm not seeing the 4* with breakfast in the Mag Mile-RN area when searching for 2 adults or 2a/2c, but if you are seeing a 4* with breakfast in this zone (and you should be able to see the tripadvisor rating on the detail page by clicking on the listing), may want to consider just grabbing it.

Looks like the free breakfast hotel is gone.... oh well... keep looking.

I may focus on Priceline but know they only guarantee double occupancy.   Should this worry me?

Price.line's double occupancy is likely not an issue, but the main concern is that there is the possibility of one bed. You can request two beds after purchase, but the hotel could say no or charge more. With Hot.wire, you can search for 4 and that should result in some form of bedding (2 beds or 1 + sofa or 1 + rollaway.)

There are some fairly reasonable breakfast spots downtown, so if there is a great rate for a hotel w/o breakfast, that's a consideration.
