lisan Posted May 23, 2014 Report Posted May 23, 2014 Hi, I'm new here and have never used hotwire or priceline before but it's vegas, why not gamble with a surprise hotel room? I'm going to vegas next month and I'm looking for a hotel 3.5* or more on the strip preferably center or south. June 16-19. These are the ones that look good to me. Can someone help me identify them and if it looks like a good deal? I don't want to think I'm getting a good deal then find out it's not a nice room but an old outdated run down room lol. Also I noticed on hotwire it sometimes tells you what hotel someone just got from that deal, is that accurate? Hotwire: south strip area 65% recommend, 3.5/5 tripadvisor rating, 37% off $50/night regular $80 4* amenities:free parking, resort, fitness center, business center, golf nearby, casino, internet access, pool, restaurants my guess from tripadvisor would be the Westin?------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- hotwire: south strip 75% recommend 3* trip advisor rating 3.5/5, 41% off $33 night reg $57 It says last person who booked got The excalibur amenities free parking, free internet, casino, fitness center, business center, pool, restaurants, golf nearby -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- hotwire: center strip 3.5* $50 night 75% recommend 3.5/5 tripadvisor amenities: free parking, pool, restaurant, pet friendly, golf nearby, casino, fitness center, business center, internet access ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- hotwire: south strip 4* 80% recommend 46% off $53 night reg $100 last person got monte carlo amenities: free parking, free internet, resort, casino, fitness center, pool, business center, restaurants, golf nearby --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- hotwire: center strip 80% recommend tripadvisor 4/5, 4* 61% off $61 night reg $158 last person got paris amenities: pet friendly, free parking, pool, golf nearby, casino, restaurants, internet access, fitness center, business center ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
lisan Posted May 23, 2014 Author Report Posted May 23, 2014 Hi! Newbie here. I've never used priceline but figured hey, it's vegas, you have to gamble a bit right? I'm looking for a 4* or 5*, could even go down to 3.5*. I don't have a big budget since I'm staying by myself June 16-19. Budget is maximum $75 night so I know 5* will be out lol Is it better to name your own price or do the express deals?? Looking at express deals I found these ones. any guesses? vicinity south strip $52 night 4* Guaranteed Amenities:Outdoor Swimming PoolFree ParkingBusiness CenterCasinoFitness Center mandatory fee for 3 nights USD 67.17 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- vicinity south strip 3.5* $45 night guaranteed amenitiesfree parking mandatory fee for 3 nights USD 67.20 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- North strip 4* $77 night Guaranteed Amenities:Free Internet in public areasOutdoor Swimming PoolFree ParkingRestaurantBusiness CenterCasinoFitness Center mandatory fee for 3 nights USD 84.00 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ideally I would like to stay on the strip 3.5* and above for around $40-$60 night for 3 nights june 16-19 Any bidding strategies?? What's up with the mandatory resort fees? seems like a total rip off. All I see they include is the fitness center & wifi. Not worth $22 a night!!! No way of getting out of those fees are there? I also noticed with Paris & Bally's they require an additional deposit fee of $100 per night on top of your room price & resort fee! I'm trying to make this comfortable but cost effective since I'm going alone. Any tips would be appreciated!!
thereuare Posted May 23, 2014 Report Posted May 23, 2014 Welcome to BetterBidding! Let's take a step backwards... What is the most important goal for this trip... location, hotel quality, budget, etc? Have you been to Vegas before? Will you mostly stay in/around the hotel you book or will you be hotel hopping, etc? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. lisan Posted May 24, 2014 Author Report Posted May 24, 2014 Hi! Yes I have been to vegas before and stayed at the Mirage. Beautiful place. I am travelling solo this time so I will likely be hotel hopping in center & south end of strip (paris, bellagio, mgm, NYNY, etc) I want a good location and a comfy room, at a budget since I'm travelling solo. 3 nights june 16-19 Lisa

thereuare Posted May 24, 2014 Report Posted May 24, 2014 Any bidding strategies??Are you willing to accept any hotel in the zone(s) you bid OR do you need to have a guess as to the hotel before making your purchase? What's up with the mandatory resort fees? seems like a total rip off.Think of it this way... it subsidizes the room rate to keep the price lower than it would otherwise seem. You can try to get out of the resort fee by discussing with the front desk, but it's not as easy as it used to be. lisan Posted May 24, 2014 Author Report Posted May 24, 2014 sorry for the multiple copy posts from me. I have no idea why that did that, I was trying to post the same question in the PRICELINE thread since this is the HOTWIRE thread. I would like a guess of the hotel first, I've seen luxor, excalibur and mandalay bay pop up and I'm not keen on those hotels, but any other hotel in the south strip or center would be fine. Since I need to factor in tax & resort fees my budget is around $50 a night. Less would be better and if that means excalibur or luxor than I would do it since budget and area is really my #1, mandalay bay is a little further down than I want though, same as luxor. Should I try bidding or use a PRICELINE EXPRESS deal? Is PRICELINE or HOTWIRE better? Tips on bidding?
thereuare Posted May 24, 2014 Report Posted May 24, 2014 ...I was trying to post the same question in the PRICELINE thread since this is the HOTWIRE thread. You can keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. Once you purchase a hotel use the "ADD REPLY and REPORT WIN" button on the lower right corner of the page... the thread will automatically be moved to the correct section of the board (if necessary). Here are your options sub-$50: $30 - Excalibur $45 - Ballys $46 - Luxor $50 - Polo Towers Assuming we're correct on these guesses, thoughts on the above? Based upon your previous comments i'm guessing the Excalibur would be your top choice? If so, is it worth bidding to save a few extra dollars and risk one of the less favorably located hotels? lisan Posted May 24, 2014 Author Report Posted May 24, 2014 Hi. Right now it is between the excalibur & bally's. Bally's has a promotion on their site for $50 night plus $20 food credit per day which brings it down to the same price as the excalibur. I've emailed both properties to ask about a daily deposit in case of room charges, I think you do need to make a deposit for bally's so if that's the case I'll probably go with the excalibur. Any thoughts on these properties? the good, the bad? Are the rooms better at one over the other? upgrades easier at one over the other? Lisa
thereuare Posted May 24, 2014 Report Posted May 24, 2014 All strip properties in Vegas will require some sort of credit card hold. If you don't have a credit card then a deposit will be required (amount and policy vary from property to property) The same $20 offer is available thru this link for Bally's... please use the board's links for your purchase if this is the route you decide to do. Let us know once you're ready to move forward, as the properties current offered may not be the ones available once you're ready to book. AaronJB Posted May 25, 2014 Report Posted May 25, 2014 I'd guess this listing would be a possible match for the Excalibur. Are you looking for something particular in terms of hotel? Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
lisan Posted May 25, 2014 Author Report Posted May 25, 2014 something cheap in the south of strip. I'm travelling solo, don't have much budget so the excalibur looks like the only thing in my price range.
thereuare Posted May 25, 2014 Report Posted May 25, 2014 Given your constraints... why not the Excalibur?? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. lisan Posted May 27, 2014 Author Report Posted May 27, 2014 I'm pretty much set on the excalibur. It's in the right location and it's in my budget. I don't need anything fancy since I'm only there a few days. thanks for your help! Lisa
