legger33 Posted May 22, 2014 Report Posted May 22, 2014 Hi Y'all,I need to find a place in NYC. I'd like to get a bigger place (I know it's a rarity in The Big Apple as I lived there for 7 years) for three men ideally one of the Doubletree Suites or the like. I'm looking at a budget of about 200/nt.Any help would be greatly appreciated.Steve
AaronJB Posted May 22, 2014 Report Posted May 22, 2014 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)The issue becomes (as you note) the lack of larger rooms in NYC. Overall, your best bet is to look for a suite amenity on HOTWIRE (which is unfortunately relatively rare) to get a suite property (like the Doubletree or the Murray Hill East Suites, which is also seen here-and-there.) Otherwise, searching for 3 adults should result in bedding for the whole party (could be two beds or 1 + sofa or 1 + rollaway), but that still may be a "small" room. The other option would be to look at PRICELINE Express for a listing with "bed choice". Occasionally, these listings offer upgraded/larger options as choices - although for higher rates. If you see a listing on either service that is of interest, please let us know the full details of the listing (amenities, price, zone, star rating.) There is no way to bid for a particular property (such as the D'tree) or larger room. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
legger33 Posted May 22, 2014 Author Report Posted May 22, 2014 So I tried 167 in MTE, rejected and then tried 170 w MTE & Harlem still no go. I'm totally fine with HK, LES, SOHO etc. Can I bid the same 170 if I add these other areas?
AaronJB Posted May 22, 2014 Report Posted May 22, 2014 Are you okay with a potentially small room? Bidding only guarantees 1 bed/double occupancy and that is particularly true in NYC with the small size of most rooms. $200 is unfortunately likely going to be difficult for these busy date/s and a 4* definitely may require a higher bid. Please read this thread regarding re-bidding. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted May 22, 2014 Report Posted May 22, 2014 Do note that PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could not only receive a small room, but also a room that only has one bed. While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request. HOTWIRE would likely be a better option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy and ensure sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search (although this usually means two beds, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway, etc) I'm totally fine with HK, LES, SOHO etc. Can I bid the same 170 if I add these other areas? If you're willing to accept the risk of only one bed, let us know the zones, by PRICELINE name, that you are willing to accept and we will suggest a strategy for you to follow. I'll also add that what appears to be the Wyndham New Yorker is offered on HOTWIRE when searching for 3 adults for $211, if this is of any interest. legger33 Posted May 22, 2014 Author Report Posted May 22, 2014 Hey thereuare,The Wyndham New Yorker sounds good if that is $211 all in. Otherwise, it will be close because then we are probably going over our 1600 budget for the week. Also, after checking some of the prices for this week, do you think I might get a better rate by waiting until the week or days before? Thanks for all the help. Y'all rock!Steve
thereuare Posted May 23, 2014 Report Posted May 23, 2014 No, the $211/nite was room rate only... all posts on the board are posted according to room rate so that they can be referenced in the future without needing to account for tax rate changes. However, PRICELINE EXPRESS has a 4* hotel in the MSG zone (Pets Allowed, Restaurant, Business Center, Fitness Center) for $208/nite which may be the Wyndham New Yorker, i'm not 100% certain... but to this price you can also use the discount link and code in my signature for an additional 10% OFF, which brings this to ~$230/nite all-in ($1610 all-in for the week) Does this work for your needs/budget?
