blum81 Posted May 8, 2014 Report Posted May 8, 2014 Hello everyone. I've been trying to get either a 3.5 or 4* place in either Hollywood or West Hollywood and I just can't seem to follow in other members footsteps. There are a few posts in here that I've been basing my bidding off of. 4* Los Angeles (Hollywood) Loews Hollywood Hotelhttp://www.betterbidding.com/index.php?showtopic=174715$116 4* Los Angeles (Beverly Hills - West Hollywood) Chamberlain West Hollywoodhttp://www.betterbidding.com/index.php?showtopic=195773$168 4* Los Angeles (Beverly Hills - West Hollywood) Intercontinental Los Angeles Century Cityhttp://www.betterbidding.com/index.php?showtopic=194399$189 There's a few others but this price range is what I was hoping for. I've used the rebidding method and I've gone all the way up from $116 to $181 with still no luck. Is it just not possible for me to get these prices above due to high season?
thereuare Posted May 8, 2014 Report Posted May 8, 2014 Rates are date specific so you won't always be able to replicate another user's win when your dates are different then theirs... demand for your dates may be higher then when others have won for less. What are the dates of your stay? Have you already bid for both 3.5* and 4* hotels or only for 4 star properties? blum81 Posted May 9, 2014 Author Report Posted May 9, 2014 Thank you in advance for your reply! The dates I'll be needing a hotel in LA is July 11th - July 13th. So far it's only been 4 stars that I've used, and I exhausted all combinations up to $181 for 4 stars. I was planning on going at it again tonight, any advice on my plan of attack? One question I have though, are the express deal realistically closer to where my bids should be? For example: pl Express Deal: 4* Beverly Hills - West Hollywood - $235 With this said, is being in the range of $200-235 where I should realistically be? Then again I see this and it confuses me more 3.5* Beverly Hills - West Hollywood - $286
thereuare Posted May 9, 2014 Report Posted May 9, 2014 Your previous bidding makes sense to try for a lower rate than PRICELINE EXPRESS, especially with time on your side, but based upon the current rate for the 4* hotel, and your rejected bids up to $181, i would guess that the $200-$235 range is more realistic at this point in time. As far as the 3.5* hotel being more expensive then the 4* hotel (i assume that is the aspect that you're confused by?)... each hotel bases their pricing on their own occupancy levels (ie- supply/demand) as well as may have different thoughts about discounting rooms. The 3.5* hotel may have a wedding, conference, or may be next to a convention center (with a bid convention taking place) that they have higher occupancy levels (and maybe only a few rooms left) than a 4* hotel which has no conferences or weddings planned at the hotel for these dates, is not part of the official 'convention hotels' for these dates, and therefore has lower occupancy levels and therefore has lower prices. As well, demand may be similar at both hotels, but one hotel may feel that discounting 'opaque' rates by 50% is the right approach, whereas another hotel may only want to discount their rate by 25%. As you an see their a many different aspects that go into hotel pricing. Nobody can say if rates will come down, or move higher, between now and your stay, but if you're looking to get this done, and both the Beverly Hills and Hollywood zones are acceptable, i would take the following approach... When bidding 4* in Los Angeles you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. Select 4* Beverly Hills... Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $173, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $175, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 4* Hollywood... Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $173, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $175, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 4* Beverly Hills and Hollywood... Bid $178, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $183, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $188, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $190 If the above is rejected, there is currently a 4* PRICELINE EXPRESS hotel in the BH-WH zone for $215/nite. However, use the discount link and coupon in my signature for 10% off (expires tonite) brings this down to $193/nite and you can this one: Free Internet in room Outdoor Pool Pets Allowed Restaurant Business Center --> my guess for this property would be the Hotel Wilshire Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
blum81 Posted May 10, 2014 Author Report Posted May 10, 2014 Hi thereuare Thanks for the advice and steps I should take. Given the fact that I have 2 months to decide I may wait it through and monitor the price. I'm in no rush to get something and the fact that people are getting the intercontinental for under $180, it doesn't hurt to wait. Do you think the price will decrease closer to the date?
thereuare Posted May 10, 2014 Report Posted May 10, 2014 There is no way to know if rates will drop, or move higher, between now and your stay... it all depends upon supply/demand and how many new reservations/cancellations the hotel receives relative to expected new reservations/cancellations. However, as noted above, rates (and hotel inventory) or date specific and with many 4* hotels in this area to hope/expect a specific can lead to disappointment, the opaque providers really work best when you're flexible. If you've decided to wait, i'd suggest setting some alerts at our new site RateDrop which will send you an email anytime a hotel drops to your desired 'buy' price... you can sign up for HOTWIRE and PRICELINE EXPRESS alerts, as well as for 'named' hotels that you would be interested in staying in (ie- the InterContinental and any other hotels that would interest you) Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Roadguy Posted May 17, 2014 Report Posted May 17, 2014 Im not positive, and I dont want to get your hopes up, but I think that 3 star for $116(now 114) is the grafton. The grafton shows as a 3.5 on the hotel list, so lets see what others think

Roadguy Posted May 18, 2014 Report Posted May 18, 2014 My best guess for that 4 star is the Hotel Angeleno
AaronJB Posted May 18, 2014 Report Posted May 18, 2014 Please keep all posts for this stay within this thread, then we will shift it to the appropriate forum (PRICELINE or HOTWIRE) when a decision on hotel is made. 3* Century City/WW - this listing has not yet been ID'd/reported to the board, but the LA Sky Boutique would be a possibility. Only a 3/5 tripadvisor rating is concerning. 4* Century City/WW - possible match for the Angeleno. 3* BH - I'd guess a downgraded Grafton with a new amenity set would be a possibility, but this may be something else. 3* BH (more expensive $178) - This listing has not yet been ID'/reported to the board - possibly the Ramada Plaza w/a new amenity set? However, do you really want a more expensive 3* with only 50% approval rating from HOTWIRE customers? You can also see all of the hotels reported to the board here: Hotwire Hotel List California. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
