branstono Posted May 16, 2014 Report Posted May 16, 2014 Hello - I will be travelling to Puerto Rico in early July and will need a place to stay on 6/7 - 6/9. It will be me, my wife and 2 kids (6 and 10). I have been scouring these boards, hotwire, priceline, etc and really have no idea where to stay. I am thinking San Juan/Condado/Isla Verde areas, 3.5 to 4 star properties preferably on the beach. Trying to keep the nightly cost around $150. I plan to use Priceline Express or Hotwire. Have you seen any deals recently that fit my criteria? Deciding on a hotel in these areas is very difficult - I will find what I think is the perfect place and the reviews look good at first and then I read a horrible review that kills it for me. Any help here would be greatly appreciated,
thereuare Posted May 16, 2014 Report Posted May 16, 2014 Welcome to BetterBidding! ... early July and will need a place to stay on 6/7 - 6/9.Please confirm if your trip is in June or July. Deciding on a hotel in these areas is very difficult - I will find what I think is the perfect place and the reviews look good at first and then I read a horrible review that kills it for me.That is what you get in San Juan... hotels are generally expensive and service levels aren't usually up to the standards that most expect for the (high) price paid. It's not that service is necessarily 'bad', but the culture is different and Puerto Rico still very much has an 'island time' mindset. "I'll get it right away..." can mean within an hour or two (or sometimes three or four), not necessarily "i will drop everything i'm doing right now". As a result, even the best hotels have a fairly high number of negative reviews. Start by confirming you're dates and we'll take it from there. branstono Posted May 16, 2014 Author Report Posted May 16, 2014 My dates are June 7 - June 9. Thank You
thereuare Posted May 16, 2014 Report Posted May 16, 2014 What appears to be the Doubletree is offered for your dates at $150/nite... not on the beach (it's walkable though, depending upon the age of your kids) and gets good reviews. The El San Juan Hotel and Casino is on the beach but not as well reviewed for about the same price. In the Condado area the Conrad Condado Hilton (name change) is available, again right around the same price point, but this is a small man-made beach and not like the 'real' beach like along the coast in Isla Verde? Any of the above of interest? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. branstono Posted May 16, 2014 Author Report Posted May 16, 2014 Thanks for the info - The El San Juan sounds nice and would be my first choice, and then the Conrad. What would be my next step to get the good rate? I really appreciate your help with this.
thereuare Posted May 16, 2014 Report Posted May 16, 2014 Using the BiddingHelper.com search for your dates and 2adults/2children and you'll see the following: 4* Isla Verde for $152/nite with: Resort Beachfront Casino Fitness Pool Restaurant Business Laundry Hi-Speed Internet Golf Tennis Spa Blind Accessible Deaf Accessible Travel Accessible Room Accessible Bathroom Accessible Handicapped Parking Roll-in Shower ... best guess for this one would be the El San Juan Hotel and Casino 4* Condado for $154/nite Free Internet Near Beach Oceanfront Casino Fitness Pool Restaurant Business Laundry Golf Tennis Spa Blind Accessible Deaf Accessible Travel Accessible Room Accessible Bathroom Accessible Handicapped Parking Roll-in Shower ... my guess for this one would be the Condado Plaza Hilton (sorry, it used to be a Conrad, but was converted over to a Hilton, not sure if this is the property you had previously researched or not) Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
