ligaya Posted May 14, 2014 Report Posted May 14, 2014 my family are planning to go washington dc on 6/03/14-6/7/14. We'd like to stay in the city center as close as possible since we are just going to do the hop on hop off bus and not renting a car. I started bidding on PRICELINE ( I used your link) and so far no luck yet.I'm bidding for 4*, I started with low offer I believe $60 and currently at $70 right now. I saw on HOTWIRE $112 for a 4* capitol hill-national mall hotel. My question is since hotwire is offering it at $112 4* hotel, what max I can bid and not overbid? Somebody post a winning bid $80 but its on a different dates though. thanks any tip would help it's my first time using the bid on PL.
AaronJB Posted May 14, 2014 Report Posted May 14, 2014 Welcome to Betterbidding. :) One issue with PRICELINE is that it only guarantees double occupancy/1 bed. You can contact the hotel for two beds, but they may say no or charge more. Are you willing to take that risk? If not, HOTWIRE would be a better choice, as it allows you to indicate the amount of people in the party (which should result in bedding - 2 beds or 1+ sofa or 1 + rollaway) for the entire party. Another choice instead of bidding would be to look at pl Express and see if a listing is showing a "bed choice" option. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted May 15, 2014 Report Posted May 15, 2014 My question is since hotwire is offering it at $112 4* hotel, what max I can bid and not overbid? You should start lower (as you have been) but you could bid up to $112 and not overbid ;) HOWEVER, you don't know if you're comparing apples-to-apples, as each service evaluates and assigns star ratings to hotels based upon their own criteria, so the 4* hotel you're seeing on HOTWIRE may also be 4* on PRICELINE, but it could be a hotel that is 3.5* rated by PRICELINE, thereby making the basis for the comparison flawed from the start. To move forward, i think the bigger question is one of occupancy that AaronJB raised above... how many adults/children (and what are the ages of the children) will you actually be and are you willing to take the occupancy risk that you receive a room with only one bed? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
