Amy72 Posted May 9, 2014 Report Posted May 9, 2014 Looking for a hotel for downtown Chicago for a quick getaway for our family. We are riding the Amtrack and have walked to our hotel on the river in the past and would love something in that area again. Checked the Calendarofwins and see a $79 win, but have tried 2 days and stopped bidding for a 4 star at $123. I bid Grant Park, then added Michigan, then the other areas without 4 stars. Are there days of the week that are better than others to bid? Times of the day? Do you recommend I keep trying low or accept we will have to pay more? Thanks for any advice you have. I don't mind less stars but just want to make sure we end up with a decent hotel in a good area.
AaronJB Posted May 9, 2014 Report Posted May 9, 2014 The issue with these date/s, unfortunately, is that they do seem a little busier than a few days after (the days before fourth of July are usually very slow - I guess people leave the city rather than visit for the 4th.)What would be your desired max budget per night for this stay and which downtown zones would be acceptable (Millennium Park-Loop-GP or River North-NMA)? At $123, I don't think you're terribly far off from a win, especially South of the river. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Amy72 Posted May 9, 2014 Author Report Posted May 9, 2014 I guess I will spend whatever I need to to get us a hotel room. :) Just would prefer a great deal. I figured I was close to a win but am thinking about reducing the star level and the price to try again. Just can't rebid as many times. I will try again tomorrow. Thanks!
AaronJB Posted May 9, 2014 Report Posted May 9, 2014 There is really not an optimal time to bid, but you can keep track of rates using our new service, ratedrop.com (which can send price alerts when Hot.wire, Price.line Express or regular rate listings drop). If you are looking for a more family-friendly hotel, I would stick North of the river for a better chance at one. The hotels in the Loop are, with one or two exceptions, more business oriented. I think you're likely looking at $128-138 for a 4* in the Loop and probably more towards the $145-155 area in the River North-NMA area. thereuare Posted May 9, 2014 Report Posted May 9, 2014 PRICELINE EXPRESS currently has a 4* hotel in the Millennium Park - Loop - Grant Park zone for $135/nite, but using the discount link and code and in my signature takes this down to $122/nite, which is less than you have already bid. AaronJB Posted May 17, 2014 Report Posted May 17, 2014 I'm seeing what appears to be the Public Chicago for $123 on HOTWIRE for these date/s when searching for 2 adults only, although there is only 1 room available. That is only indicating two adults though - but you may want to start lower and try up to $123 again at the 4* level via Price.line bidding.
