I am bidding for a 3* East Syracuse - 06/05 - 06/11.  Started bidding tonight @ $48 for East Syracuse.  The following are my re-bids - all with no luck.  I thought I would surely be able to score a 3* in East Syracuse for one of these:

1st re-bid $54 adding SU area

2nd re-bid $55 adding Baldwinsville

3rd re-bid $62 adding Cicero

4th re-bid $63 adding Dewitt

5th re-bid $65 adding Fairgrounds

6th re-bid $67 adding Airport

Any tips?  Am I bidding too early, or just too low?

Thanks!

The Syracuse University zone offers bidding up to 4 stars, is this an acceptable zone for you to stay in addition to Syracuse East?

At current rates i think you're likely looking at the $75-$85 for the complete stay. Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option, as it looks like you may be able to get something for the first 3 nites at ~$50/nite or less... then the last 3 nites in the $75-$85 area, which would give you an average rate less than you have already bid, but would require the likely scenario of changing hotels mid-stay.

Using our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com, what is the best rate you're able to find at an acceptable hotel in one of the zones you're willing to stay?

Yes, the Syracuse University Zone is acceptable in addition to Syracuse East.

We are also open to the idea of splitting the bid.  I was unfamiliar with this until now.  Is your recommendation for splitting the bid to split to Thursday - Saturday nights as one bid, and Sunday - Tuesday nights as another.

Using Maps.Hotels, the best rate at an acceptable hotel in one of the zones is $102 - $110.

Yes, that would be the idea, but the rates i posted above have flipped, and now the second set of dates is less expensive than the first set of dates (unless i typed it wrong the other day). However, if you have some time to make multiple bids, i would still try to get the greatest number of dates confirmed as possible on the first (less expensive) purchase, so i would bid as follows using your FIVE re-bid zones at the 3* level:

Select 3* East and University...

Bid $38, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $40, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $43, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $45, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $48, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $50

Try the above for the following dates combinations:

6/5-6/11

6/6-6/11

6/5-6/10

6/7-6/11

6/5-6/9

6/8-6/11

My guess is that you'll ultimately be successful for the last set of dates, but if not, you can then take the 3 star PRICELINE EXPRESS property for $52/nite (6/8-6/11):

Free Breakfast

Free Internet in public areas

Outdoor Pool

Free Parking

Pets Allowed

Airport Shuttle

Business Center

Fitness Center

From there we can try revise the strategy to try for the balance of the nites, with an (as of now) worst case scenario of $88 (on PRICELINE EXPRESS for 6/5-6/8)

Thoughts/questions?

Thanks for the help! I used the Priceline link and bid as you suggested.  I won the final scenario 6/8-6/11 @ $48 - Cresthill Suites - very happy with the win.

After this win, I tried to bid for the first 3 nights of the trip 6/5-6/8, using the same re-bid zones, but using a higher price. I was unsuccessful.  Have looked at Priceline Express and am guessing the $87 or $88 (but $95 for a King bed) is likely the Best Western Plus Carrier Circle.  Haven't decided whether to do that or for a few extra bucks just book the Cresthill (through their site) so I don't have to change hotels.

Congratulations on your success!

Thanks for using the PRICELINE links on the board.

Good to see that you're happy with the outcome.

Just to close out this topic - I was unable to win a good bid for the first three nights of my trip to Syracuse, so I decided to book a hotel directly.  Breaking the trip up at two hotels in two different parts of the city should be interesting to experience different areas, just wish I would have been successful bidding the entire trip.  Very happy that I was at least able to win a bid for 1/2 the trip though  :) .
